Someone who hasnt got a mention but I think Neivelle played very well. I'm not his biggest fan but last night he warranted his place in the starting 11.

Great stuff, shame about the 96 fans arrested, all english

what, we fluked a win?

Never looked like it was going to happen. I have to admit to stopping watching at half time, it was abysmal long ball stuff, give them it back every ten seconds, and I just checked the score at 70 mins.

Well, hate to say it mate, but you missed out there :D:p

...and it was no fluke, apart from the pen, but the ref missed a hand ball in the area earlier so justice was done.

First half was poor apart from the last 10 minutes by the newbie.

Have to say I was getting annoyed at Owen for diving. Thought that was something other countries did!?

Second half was far better and we certainly deserved it.

Wonder what round the fighting is into outside the ground.:(

Rooney was pure class, he had strength, pace, imagination and passion. All those doubters can now STFU! Hes the breath of fresh air that we need.

Vassell also made a big difference when he came on.

Owen was bollocks and had no confidence.

James flapped a few times but made that great save.

Didn't Mr Beckham call some a "Poustis" (forgive me for my spelling) and mime a kiss or two??

Was a good second half, but you know what will happen now....the press will do the same thing to Rooney as they did with Owen.
Praise him to the hilt tomorrow but as soon as he has one bad game for England which will happen, it happens to everyone. The will slate him...can see it coming already.
Good lad though and impressed me no end.

Buzz, you must have watched a different game to me mate. I thought it was great all the way through. Turkey were impressive for the first half hour, then England took over and there was only ever going to be 1 winner.

Crucial save by James at 1-0 tho. If it had been heading right for the top corner, it would have been in, but great save nontheless.

Rooney, quality. Heskey must be pissing his pants now. The kid`s got it all.

def. the next gazza.

Good game, great save by James. as usual Sol Campbell was awesome!

Becks blowing the kisses too the Turkeys made the match for me.

Great performance by all bar Owen, me thinks he doesnt like the new boy ;)

It was a good choice to bring Vassel on and not Heskey IMO, made them work harder rather the relying on the Beckham free kicks/corners nodded in by big Heskey.

Good Stuff!

Cheers

Its the next Gazza.

I hope to god not!! I don't want to see another great English talent wasted! I hope the press stay off Rooney's back. I can see it happening, they will build him up and then knock him down again........all the thick Sun reading idiots will jump on the band wagon and he'll be slated for something...........I hope I'm wrong but I have the same opinion as ice man.

I though England were excellent! contained Turkey in a very fast paced, scrappy first 30 minutes before starting to dominate. 2nd half Gerarrd was class as was Sol Campbel. The whole team played well and it was capped by a great perforemance from Wayne Rooney. Lets back the lads and look on the positive side!

I couldn't believe it when we started the game with Gerrard on the left - Gerrard in my honest opinion is our best player (I am a biased LFC fan though! :D) and putting him out on the left was, to me, a waste of his talent. Sadly I was proven right during the first half - poor Bridge was left without and options and was totally exposed 90% of the time.
And what was going on with Beckham's crosses? I've never seen him play so poorly!

Second half though - bloody hell we were good! :) Nobody played exceptionally well, and I include Rooney in that, but we seemed to gel more as a team. I'm a huge fan of Owen, but this was not his game - nothing was going for him tonight.

One thing that really started to get on my tits was how many times Rooney was mentioned. The poor lad is being built up as if he's the best footballer ever - without a shadow of doubt the media will within 12 months knock him down. He is exceptionally talented, but he's got a lot to learn and although physically mature (I loved the way he was throwing their defence around) he's not mentally mature. This is where David Moyes has proven he is quality as a manager - he's kept Rooney's feet on the ground which I would imagine is a huge task (it would be for anybody of that age).
Only a few months ago Smith was England's new boy wonder - where's he now?

Good luck to Rooney - he'd do well to keep an eye on England's no 1 striker, he only need look across Stanley Park ;):D

Well said Andy.
I was actually happy that Rooney was left alone after the match and not forced into giving an interview.
Personally I would have Rooney and Vassel start the next game. Hopefully Mr Ericsson will employ those players showing the right attitude when wearing the shirt.
All played well, nearly broke me ankle jumping off the sofa when we scored. Not a penalty ... who cares ... not me!
Who will take Captain Passion's place for then next match?
