Mods - can this be left in General until 13:30 please!
We use a Psion series 3a to communicate with telecoms equipment at work when we commission it. We normally turn it on and click the icon for the comms program. However, today, the icon is gone, and a little message flashes up saying to replace the main and standby batteries.
Does this mean that the program is gone? if not, then how do I get it back?
Hellllllllllllllllpppppp!!!!
PS. I have it plugged into the mains.

You will get a much better response in the Computer Related forum, which is where this post will be moving to now.

Not everyone who posts in the Computer Forum, looks in the other forums.

You may have lost it. My old one had both main and backup batteries run out and I lost all contacts, etc. Fortunately I had backed them all up on the PC, so was just a case of downloading again once batteries replaced.

If it's not there when you are on the mains then I would guess that you have indeed lost it. Did you have a backup on PC that you can download via serial link or IR?

Probably gone. I had a Psion 5 and didn't use it for ages. When I came to restart it everything was wiped off. Not sure if there is anyway of getting it back, sorry Maybe try some of the Psion forums

Yeah, it's not there when I run it on mains, and I don't have any means of downloading a backup
Is there any way of doing a 'search' to see if it's hidden in there somewhere?

Ian - thanks, you obviously know the forum users better than I do

Unhappy

If both sets of batteries died, then I'm afraid your stuffed. I believe the flash ram that it uses needs a small current to keep the data held. Once it has no power, it loses all data

Saved! It was still on the flashcard, so all I had to do is re-install it!

Thumbs up

Lucky beggar

I'd look into getting hold of a serial link so you can get it backed up in case you lose the data next time.

Just had a quick search in the meantime and it's the non-flash stuff that has a built in battery that can die at any time and lose your data (apparantly). All the more reason for a backup

Glad it's all OK
