Turbocharging a BMW
I had an E36 318is which had been fitted with a Mosselman Turbo a couple of years back. Mosselman are (were?) based in Holland. Tel. +31-183-561839, Fax. +31-183-561840.
I dunno who fitted it I'm afraid, it was already on the car.
It was a sweet motor, and added about 40bhp to the "is" (180bhp), I think a standard 318i was about 170 but he's still not gonna keep up if you're in anything seriously quick. Tell him to switch to a six pot and he's got a lot more chance!
Hope this helps.

I think tdi did a low pressure turbo kit for 316 / 318 e36 that gives similar performance to 325 (still way off the scoob!). Fact is though that a 318 is an economical entry bmw not a race car. Fit a turbo and then consider uprating all of the brakes (solid discs front, drums rear as standard unless its a touring or 318is 2 or 4 door). Only 6pots get proper stopping power. Consider also the suspension is going to be crap on the limit unless he has m-tech or acs/alpina fitted.
If he wants to keep up i suggest he bins the 318 and gets a proper bmw - one that starts with an 'M'. Insurance will probably be cheaper than blowing a 4pot aswell.
