Collected the new car yesterday morning:

After 146 miles...things went wrong...

Guess who is now trying to finance an engine rebuild

Unknown Chris, it caught me by surprise as I was planning on getting it rebuilt next summer, and hadn't got around to really researching it yet. It will probably take me a 2-3 weeks to sort out a spec, and then a couple of months to get it sorted out
(and a couple of years to pay off the few grands worth, sob sob)

You aren't wrong there Crush, even got a remote control car as a Christmas present at work today, took it out the box, switched it on and it didn't do anything This despite the fact the person who bought it had tested it at their house the previous night.
I think I'll just ignore cars and take up a new hobby

146 miles? That's rough. If it's any consolation, the car I bought prior to the Scooby lasted 21 miles before the clutch died

That's rotten luck m8

Did you import it yourself?, how many miles has it done?, I thought these engines were good for 70k.

Hope you get it sorted quick, and think of the 70k more miles it should last if rebuilt well

Hey Robertio, been following this on the fduk site too, met you at one of the Surrey meets (Graham, aka IntegraR, you very kindly warned me to get my brakes warm before going all out on that little run ).

Very bad luck, but once sorted, you're going to have a (hopefully) reliable, awesome car that im sure you'll love as much as the Scoob. The rebuild, althou costly, does give you a car with a good as new engine, and from the pics, the bodywork looks mint, so althou the money may hurt now, you'll have a nearly new supercar!!

Are the garage you bought it from going to foot some of the bill?
Mine arrives in February, with around 55k miles on, but ive sort of costed in a rebuild in around 6 - 12 months, so am hoping it lasts that long (Miguel has had a good look at it and is very positive about it, plus taking out years warrrently with Newera).

It looks absolutely amazing mate, and it'll be a red rocket that stomps on just about anything!! these are seriously quick cars, Best Motoruing vids show their talents well, as in quicker than GT-R34's, Evo's etc.

Whats the spec etc on the car?

Robertio, Miguel recommended RX Motors in Dorset for a cost effective but really good rebuild, may be worth trying them.

The rest of the car is absolutely mint otehrwise it would have been going back to where it had come from. Hopefully the warranty will cover a large part part of the rebuild cost (will be early next year before I find out for sure) so I'll be mostly contributing towards the enhancements

The car is a completely standard MY94 Type-RS, soon to have Apexi power FC & GT FMIC plus a few other bits and pieces They should see 70k+ miles before rebuild time, but it does depend on how they have been treated up until that point, so I should have a lot of trouble free motoring once I get it sorted out.

The westie is still around, although I do plan to sell it come spring / summer to fund the current repairs.

[edited to add]
The car had just been imported into the country by a thrid party, only been in the UK for a couple of weeks. It had been through the SVA, etc. but I'm still waiting for the UK reg document, hence the Jap plates (makes it difficult when you phone up the AA and they ask what the registration of the car is )

What you mean you don't know Japanese ... shame on you Robertio lol.

Nice motor. Sorry you only managed to get 146 miles out of it ... that's about your limit anyway isn't it?

I had a 95 RX7 RS which needed a new engine after 2 weeks...slighly better. I used a company call Rotechnic's who recon'ed the engine, whilst it was out I had it ported and a few other engine mod's, a new clutch and a 4" exhaust minus the cat! It cost a few grand but it made one hell of a fast car that sounded soooooo nice!! Rotechnics are just West of Reading.

Good Luck!
