Personally I would go for Both!

The CAT-1 Alarm will immobiliser the car, and make noise should anyone break in. However that wont stop them putting the car on a flatbed etc...which is where the tracker comes in.

You can get a CAT-1 alarm for about £300 from most VSIB approved installers, and for a proactive tracker system you are looking at about £450 IIRC.

Ok thanks ian, how do the trakers work - for example what happens if it gets nicked in the night but you don't report it till 1st thing in the morning?

A proactive tracker you will get a call from the monitoring centre as soon as the car is moved.

There are a few different kinds of pro-active trakers too just to add to the confusion, Tracker, NavTrack, TrackStar to name a few.

Have a read on the TRacker website, this will give you some more details.

The RAC Trackstar and 24 hour Gaurdian is also worth considering along with your alarm and immobilizer, plus I have the barrier deadlock fitted. Can't be too careful

Go for a Clifford 300 for £275 with Dr Clifford in Birmingham and get a tracker monitor done there as well. Easy

Dr Clifford fitted me a Clifford c300 and a Tracker Monitor which monitors your car 24 hours a day 365 days a year for £625. My vote goes to him. I can now sleep at nights. God bless u doc. Ring him on 0121 359 1617

Some insurance companies are specifically asking for proactive tracker systems to be fitted. Like mine!
