Question

I'm considering purchasing a brand new 2000 model Imprezza from a UK dealer.

Has anyone managed to negotiate a discount or anything?

I could import but I need a car by the end of Jan and import lead times are looking like 7 months!

cheers,

Greg

Hello Greg,

Never had, or heard of discounts as far as my experiences go. I think discount is a bit of a dirty word in the dealerships. There is often some movement on finance though. I will e-mail you with a bit more info.

Otis.

Hi Greg,

Otis is quite righ, I've never heard of discounts on Scoobs either. There's a big enough waiting list and plenty of people willing to pay the asking price to force Dealers into giving discounts.

I've known my Dealer personally for years and I never got one penny off the asking price. He did give me a fantastic Finance deal and even gave me some extras for free like a CD Player, colour coded splash gaurds, that sort of thing.

My advice is to try and get the best finance and to ask for some freebies to clinch the deal. I don't think there's much margin in the OTR price, so its good for both yourself and the Dealer to provide some goodies.

Best of luck,
Stefan

Thanks guys, I'm going to see what price autobytel can offer.

As regards finance deals, can you let me know what kind of deals you got?

Email is

Don't quote me on this - but I think mine was 9.4% APR.

I got new mats (wow!) and tires thrown in as well.

James

Cool

Got 5% discount on net new price from a very reputable dealer on MY97.
You've got to get them when they are down, try the end of the month, especially when its been a good one, as every extra sale is cash in their hand from the dealer rebate.
Got a similar deal on the next one, MY98, but the discount was wound up in the px value of the one above.
I am a member of the CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) in Brighton and they have a new car "buying" department - which organises benefits for members. Although I'm not a Civil Servant! They gave me the name of their Subaru discount dealer, I think it was Cheam Motors then but could be wrong.
I rang them and spoke to the nominated person, said the code word (CSMA) and he gave me a 7.5% discount on new buy (10 month lead time then)
Rang my local dealer and he agreed 5% as a compromise to get the deal done.
I wonder if this route still works? If you are a CSMA member then I recommend you at least give it a go.

Have the invoice to prove it as well...

I know an importer that can get you the car by the start of next year.
Email me your details and requirements and I will forward them on.
