Cool

Hi all

I just got NTL broadband, comes in on a USB port to my dads PC(Win2k) and I put a network card in and shared it out to my PC (XP).

So Im running the XP firewall thingy on mine, but wondering whether I need to run some kinda firewall on my Dads PC/mine as well.

What does anyone else do? what is the real threat??

cheers

andy

The longer you are connected to the net, the more attempts you'll see to get into your PC. If you keep everything up-to-date with Windows Update, that will reduce the risk, but not to zero.

If you want a free firewall, try ZoneAlarm

I'd get zonealarm or such like, I'd guess the temptation is there to install such apps as kazaa etc, known to have spyware in there. Get some AV software, get a firewall, block everything at first, and you can see what you need and what you don't need to block pretty quickly. I'd also be tempted to get something like Ad-Aware on there, to scan for spyware.

Since I signed up for Telewest BB, about 2 months ago, I get a suspect attack say twice a week, could be a false alarm, but better safe than sorry IMO
