What visual checks can i do to find out what pot brakes i have?? the car i have is an import 93WRX, but have some wording on the calipers that i can't make out

is there anything i could check? i also have no idea of the braking feel between different pot brakes!

 

when you look thro' the wheel if you have std 2pot you will see two thin legs that hold outer pad in place and most of the outer brake pad.
if you've got 4 pots you will see only the caliper normally inscribed with "subaru"

 

from what i can see, they are not Subaru brakes, but aftermarkets instead.

can u get me a pic to show me what i should be looking for?

ok, maybe its me, but i can't see any real difference!!!! please, some one help, i'm kinda new to all this, and don't want to make expensive mistakes!

from what i can see, is it only the size of caliper and the design that is different? (as in, one is more square shaped and the other kite?)

im going to try and get pics of mine, but not too sure as to how and when!

 

raks it is quite obvious what the difference is even if you know nothing about brakes the latter 4 pot type is a fixed caliper with no obvious means of being able to slide i.e every thing is fixed solid. there fore you have 4 pistons two each side to apply the brakes. the foremost type is a sliding type, that means the top of the caliper moves independently to the botttom part giving you two pistons to work the inside pads while the pressure they excert make the caliper slide across and applys pressure to the outside pad at the same time. in other words a two pot caliper.

Obviously, this is something that can only be shown in person, and cannot be explained in the finite detail I need.

raks, take a look at the 2nd image and you can clearly see the word "subaru" in white this is a 4pot caliper, so if yours looks like this we're in business.
if it doesn't you have probably got 2 pots
what age & model vehicle? or did i miss this part of the thread?

car is a 93 WRX IMPORT AND LOOKS TO HAVE AFTERMARKET CALIPERS
