My dipstick has the following:

Lower hole : has an 'L' next to it which obvioulsy means low

Upper hole: has a 'F' next to it which obvioulsy means Full

There is 'notch' higher up on the dip stick

I presume the hole is for cold oil level check and the notch is where the oil is suppossed to be while the car is running and is hot ?

Cheers,
Ray

Question

Hi guys,

How many litres does the STi-7 take when replacing oil and oil filter ? I heard the old cars took 4.5L but that the news STi-7's take 5 litres.....I can't remember how much I put in when I did my 1,000 mile service

Also, when checking the oil level on the dipstick there are a few notches and a tiny hole.....how does it work again...

oil level should be at the hole when engine off and cold and at the notch when hot and engine running ?

Cheers,
Ray

Second notch is the "full" mark when the engine is cold.

With a hot engine (switched off for a minute or two!!) the level can be up to the hole.

Its 4.5 on a Type UK.
Don't see why a JDM would be different.

Question

Hi guys,

Can a few others confirm that it is 4.5 litres for oil & filter change on a JDM STi-7. (I heard that possibly there can be confusion as just an oil change is 4.5 litres but if filter is changed as well then 5 litres ??)

Cheers,
Ray

Razor,

I dont know quantity for sure but changed mine the weekend (and mines a STi UK and we know how diffrent they are - NOT apart from less kit, bhp and speed ).... but I used just over 4.5 litres.

I was quite worried as it seemed to take ages to get a level registered, and the filter took nearly 1/2 litre itself. Couldnt easisiy get to the crank sensor to pull it off to crank the engine either, so had to rely on ignition on-offs....

Must admit used Mobil 1 Motorsport and the engine sounds far more healthier then the Shell pap the dealer put in at 1000miles.

Razor, I brought 2x 4 litre bottles of Mobil 1 motorsport, and have about 1/2 a bottle left, not very scientific I know, but I would say its nearer to 6.

UK Prodrive.

C'mon guys, figure it out, all the 2ltr flat 4's that subaru currently have are 1994cc are they not?
so why would one take 4.5ltrs of oil and the other take 5?
hmmmmm tricky question eh
Its going to be the same for all, 4.5ltrs.

No, wait, it must be 4.5l...

The oil filter is 500ml.

To fill all the cylinders up will require 2l.
But the car is turbo charged, so you can get twice as much in there.

2x2l+500ml = 4.5l.

Thumbs down

MY99 5dr

I asked my dealer at the first oil change to use Mobil 1 was told that its use was not allowed by Subaru?

What sort of oil consumption should I expect?
