Oh My G0d!

I'm a committed Impreza owner now looking for a rich woman.

A collegue took me out in his car to "show you what a real car is like, not that Nintendo thing you drive" (must say a bit harsh).

Sits at 40 in 6th sits at 70 in 6th with effortless acceleration between.

I'm with you mate, had it a decent sized boot I'd be rid of my jap crap and german pretender in no time..
About £63k list and has a good bunch of standard equipment..mmm-mmm!

You want the original 964 C4, still the best looking one, you can pick them up for(relative) buttons these days.
I'm not a fan of the 996 at all, the classic curves have gone in favour of slab sides, and the engines has lost all their character.

Ah, but the 996 C4S has got the curves back - looks like the wide bodied turbo. To be honest I'd rather a 993, looks and character wise, but the 996 is a better day to day car - servicing and parts are much cheaper (talking main dealer here)
964RS would be my choice of a third car 911 though - awsome on track in club sport mode, but useless for a family man like me on a daily basis.

I can only agree, the C4 moves like nothing else i've been in. Off the mark it's quick but once it's moving, fek........

Lets just say the M3 owner tried hard, and lost two or three car lengths by 60 and after that it became a spec. in the rear view !

The gutting thing though, is that if you can afford the 70k Porsche want for one the residuals are so high that the overall cost of ownership is probably less than a scoob once you've worked it all out, but a friend got one on a three year company lease and it cost him £1200 a year in actual unrecoverable cash, before you add petrol.

The rich get richer, or just stay flashy on the outside !!

Best Porsche available (except maybe a GT2 )IMHO. If I ever get round to winning the lottery or suddenly come into bundles of cash then a C4S is right at the top of the list

As RUF will tell you, narrow-bodies Carreras (not lard-**** C4Ss) are the biz

With older 911's what's now a C4S used to be called a 'Turbo Look'

Kind of like an Impreza Sport with bonnet scoops

The wider track of the C4S is not just for show. It gives the car a lot more grip and stability in the corners. Every review I have read said it is a lot nicer to drive than the normal C4 (anybody on here driven one?).

I have to agree with you. Most 911 drivers are poo. They don't seem to understand the weight balance of their car. When driven properly very little will touch them but when driven by a novice they are **** ;-)

I just found out how much the brake discs cost - £2800 for a set of four! That will teach them to use carbon composite!

He is talking about taking out my car for a drive!

I wonder if he will give it to me when he gets rid of it due to the family expanding. Moving up to a DB7 Vanquish! Don't you just hate some people!

Drove a standard 993 C4 a while back when I still had my 330d Sport, and loved it to bits. Then sold my Beemer and thought about getting a 993 C4. Couldn't find one I wanted, so bought a new MINI Cooper and an R33 GTR V-spec Skyline instead!

Was then lucky enough to be lent a 993 Turbo4 for the Jubilee weekend.

What can I say? 408 bhp of useable power. Sooooo much faster than my 330 bhp Skyline that it's daft. 6th gear is geared for a leisurely 30 mph per 1000 rpm, and I saw 5800 rpm in top on a 1.5 mile stretch of uphill dual carriageway. From a standing start

I truly need one now. Hence the Skyline is in the Classifieds and my good lady might be having a MINI!! LOL

Matt, surely it would be cheaper to spend £2k on giving your GTR similar power or £10k on giving it 550bhp Those 993 turbos are amazing, but still pricey (ie £35k for a 95 LHD )... How about a suitably tuned R34 instead?

Someone needs to compare the C4S to an Impreza or Evo 7? I still suspect that in the wet the C4S will have some surprises and be less predictable then front-engine cars.

I've got a 996 C4(2000 model), it did not initially feel as quick acceleration wise as my scoob but has a wider powerband so it accelerates longer and probably is faster(I had an Sti before). Its also a steptronic(5 speed not 6 as the manual is, rarely uses 1st either) so you can concentrate on point and shoot. No Turbo kick up the pants but still very very fast and much faster above 100MPH. Handling has been impeccable but I'm a little more careful with a 60K car than I was with my 14K Sti when I had it. Also electronics keep you on the straight and narrow whereas my Sti was a bit more hands on. Don't forget the braking, which literally can make your head swim if you give it large from 100-0.
Not really a fair comparison to be honest. To the guys who say they wouldn't have one cause they are not as good blah blah blah...Aye Right sure you wouldn't given the chance, they drive and sound fantastic, don't let the detractors put you off. I think the Turbo body looks better than standard. Not sure how much real difference its makes though to handling.
Looks wise and comfort there is no comparison, its not the same league for Scoob and 996 but then 3 times the price.

Mr Osbourne speaks the truth Go for it Matt.

In the right hands, with the right amount of training, the 996 is probably the most entertaining 'supercar' around. Having been lucky enough to go round with Paul Ripley - it is a truely amazing car. You then start to understand why so many top drivers recommend and drive 911s. Porsche may have lost the plot with the Cayanne, but they can still build a bloody good sports car when they put their mind to it. The C4S is a perfect example of this. To say that it is just a 996 wearing a turbo body kit is very wide of the mark.

It's true they're three times the price....new.

However, for the same price as an STi V/VI (around 15k) you can pick up a 911 Carrera 3.2. For the same price as a P1 (25k) you can get a 964 Turbo or possibly a 993 Carrera.

Not such an easy comparison now.
