just been driven as a passenger in a civic type r ,they are just as quick as a scoob and seem to go round corners better, so looks like the scoobs going by the end of year

As the proud owner of a new Type-R with 9.5k on the clock - it'll keep up with a 'bugeye' but the 'pre-bugeye' is quicker off the mark. As for handling, nothing in it when dry but I don't reckon there's anything better than a Scooby in the wet !

Tony: The Type-R doesn't suffer from Torque steer for some reason. It also doesn't 'track' in the same way that my pre-bumpsteer Scooby used to when you floored it.

PS I'm test driving a new 156GTA next week for Alfa - now that's going to be interesting!

 

None of the V-Tec Civics torque-steered, unlike Vauxhall & Ford chassis engineers, the Honda boys actually know a thing or two about handling and engineering (as do the French). Torque stter is caused by the long driveshaft twisting and unwinding under extreme (or moderate, in Vauxhalls case) application of power, the gearbox layout in a Civic allows for equal length driveshafts which instantly erases the problem.

Not so long ago, my old standard 98 UK beasted the a CTR between Silverstone and Brackley who was being escorted by a integra type R at the time. Must admit there was nothing much in it on the straight, say 1-200 yards over a 2 miler , but on the nice roundabout section before brackley and the M40, I lost them, sorry they lost me, they could not see the pipe .

Why do these always have to turn into My Scooby is Better than Any Other Car on the Road????

 

There's very little in it on the road (CTR v 99MY)at half-sane speeds (ie below 90).

I had a friendly sprint against one around a few roundabouts. I was in front. There can't have been much more than 3 or 4 car lengths in it throughout.

The Civic seems to roll less, turns in well, but the Sub seems to be able to get its power down more strongly in the turn at lowish speeds (4wd?).

I think the CTR is excellent value but prefer the Allweathability of 4wd.

ps The Audi A4 Quattros I've had gripped better than the Subarus I've had....but weren't as much fun !

Well maybe it's about time that some (and definitely not all) Scooby owners realised that although they have a fast car with decent handling, it's not the greatest thing on the road!

Every time a new car is released we have to suffer threads as to why the Scooby is better than the newly released car.

Every time someone gets burnt off by an M3/TVR/911 they want to know why and is there something wrong with my car?

Speaking as an ex-Scooby owner I realised that they are really good cars. They do have downfalls though such as turbo-lag and steering that's a bit wooly. The upside of this is that they are VERY modifiable and with about £500 it's possible to rectify a number of this problems.

I fully agree, but to be fair this is not just restricted to Scooby owners. Most people will defend the ability of their car for obvious reasons, If you concede that your car is possibly inferior, what does that say about you and the choices you make?


BTW, I have owned a Scoob for the past 3.5 years, it has yet to put as big a smile on my face as either my '86 XR4x4 or my wifes Ka can manage. It is an awesomely competent and efficient piece of kit, but you have to be a driving god (and lets face it , I'm not!) to get it anywhere near it's limits. I have only driven the thing close to its limits once and it still scares the **** out of me thinking about the size of the accident I could have had if I had lost it.

I can tell you countless stories of how my cheap as chips Integra thatt is very resonable to run has spanked many a bigger and supposedly faster motor, but why bother as you'd only say I was lying.

There are only a couple of cars that make me nervous on the road and that is the EVO6 and Chipped Octavia RSTurbos oh and SOME Scoobys but not all....

I can also tell ya that i had a Scooby Turbo for 4 months and although I rate the motor very very highly I won't be rushing out to buy one as the running cost for those 4 months was crazy....

Fast car 'V' Fast car thread are out of date and out of touch.....

At the end of the day, it is usually the driver that loses the race, rather than the cars these days. Because lets face it these cars have far higher limits than most of the people driving them!

Matt, not totally dry, but drying out, a november day with just a fine mist on the deck (freezing fog just cleared), up at Palmer Sport, Bedford autodrome. They take you around once before letting you loose on your own and get mightily pI$$ed if you do not drive the nuts off of it. Best type of cars to thrash, someone elses

its an excellent day out, a bit expensive at about 500 squids, but you drive some excellent motors, they have changed some of the motors, like they now have EVO6's , but when i was there we got to drive

Racing carts, 4x4 challenge, Caterham Superlight (excellent motor), imprezas (no longer avail), Elise 135, Audit TT, Integra Type R, followed up last but no means not least a Formula Palmer Audi single seater for 5 laps (absolutely awesome)

luck it was a corporate day

Getting back on topic my standard UK TegR was quicker cross country than my standard UK MY99 Scoob.

Same driver, same roads, so it must be the car...LOL...

Big open roads, Scoob a little bit quicker.

over 100 mph scoob a little bit quicker

Flat out Scoob a little bit quicker

In the Dry, Teg *handles* better than standard (but geometry checked) My99. Scoob has better traction, but once over 30, little in it.

In the wet, Teg *handles* better, but has cr@p traction, so scoob would be much quicker out of roundabouts, junctions and tight corners.

Honda MUCH more progressive on/over the limit than the scoob

Have done '000 of miles in both

Preferred the scoob. Just on sense of occasion, that engine note, torque and 4wd.
