Netgear RP114 - Any good?
The RP114 Netgear cable modem router is fantastic mate. Telewest use this product for Blueyonder workwise (business) product. It's so straight forward mate.
Issues an IP address to all connected PC seemlessly
Make sure you register the WAN mac address with your service provider!

Sorry suba, top for
"Would it make a difference that I have the router set to spoof the MAC address of the first PC"
although this question is no longer relevant, as I finally managed to clear the memory of the C/M and got it to register the MAC of the router instead.
.....and in answer to your question, I have done a you suggested, but don't yet know if it has done the trick as none of the peeps I know with webcams have been around lately to test it.

Thanks Suba, that all makes sense, but I still cannot connect Netmeeting to a remote machine. The same applies to video and audio in MSN Messenger. Says connecting to remote machine but nothing else occurs.
Now totally

According to the support site that you referred me to, the IP address to use is the dynamically provided one from the router to the local PC - the ISP supplied IP address is already there for NetMeeting traffic to use, the router passes the data to the local IP provided (or should, at least)
I have managed to get video out and audio in. ATM no audio out and cannot test video in until someone I know with webcam is available online.
Thanks for the help so far
