I don't care what year it is from 2008 onwards best thing is to throw away the boost gauge and get a Defi oil pressure gauge. Way more important
IMHO
As the Oul pump with little to no oil. Will pump air/oil to give enough positive pressure to turn the Oil light out.
Try it on a wan k engine. Mine used all the oil up in 200 miles. It was hot and bearings completely shot and put oil light out on tick over. I had to put 4.3ltrs of oil to reach the mark. So it has enough pressure to pilot light out but not enough to lubricate anything

Also had a near miss with a Audi with a faulty oil level sensor; no dip stick to check.
What a oil pressure gauge shows is not just oil pressure, but if it's a undamped type (reacts instantly -not sure if Defis are), it can also show fluctuations where a healthy oil pressure is interrupted by high frequency fluctuations, which could be air or some other failure, in one case with a Tigra it was a thrust bearing failure causing excessive end float as the crank moved back and fourth, the resulting movement meant the oil ports from the main bearings would get closed off or opened up evey time the crank moved...gave very interesting readings and explained why the top end didn't sound very healthy, engine was shot but the gauge showed clearly something serious had failed without having to take it apart, oil pressure light stayed off throughout.

You can add another to the list:
My June 2010 330R (STi UK limited edition, with the Prodrive Pack), 33k miles, will be having its engine pulled out on Tuesday. A compression test was done on it this morning and no 4 cylinder is only half the compression of the other three
Car is completely standard and unmodified. Never been on track, not driven bouncing off the rev limiter, wasn't using any oil.

In June 2014 I traded my STi above in for another late STi hatch (first registered in April 2013, almost certainly the last STi hatch registered in the UK).
It had 8,600 miles on the clock when I bought it. I had a Pro R 340 pack fitted at that date, and it has now done 29,000 miles.
Again, the car is completely standard and unmodified. Never been on track, not driven bouncing off the rev limiter, wasn't using any oil.
Guess what? It has a hesitation, and after a trip to the dealer last Friday and some investigation by them, it is showing an issue with no 4 cylinder. No sh 1t!
The dealer wants to fit a new set of plugs! I said, whilst you have the plugs out, you might want to do a compression test...............
So, looks like I have the second car to have a failure!
Did I mention I ordered a 2016 Focus RS a couple of weeks ago?

Yes no deals on RS. Actually the price has gone £1k higher on second batch.

Crappy standard map That's bad luck if it is another failure. Although it could just be a faulty coilpack/plug as the dealer suggested or even corrosion in an HT lead. Let us know what the outcome is please. Also what type of fuel did you run your previous and current scoob on?

Every time I read this thread I am fascinated and await the day mine gives up. My MY11 STI 320R is now on 88k and performs well. From day one it used about a pint of oil every 5,000 miles and it continues to do so. It has been serviced to the book and has only ever seen V-power. It is starting to show a bit of end float on the crank felt through the clutch but apart from that no signs of issues. Could it be down to how well you treat them?

Yea ok fair point not a standard Subaru map, but i class it that way as it's still poop compared to an independent dyno or road map. As its just an ECU flash, so the map is not tailored to the car its applied to. Which is something all independent mappers do.

Tony had issues with the 340R package only giving stupid 300ish BHP and drinking fuel IIRC.
Maybe more to the issue than just the map

I was lead to believe it was an issue in sports# that the tumbler valves were in throughout the rev range. Although worked correctly in Sports.

I got new rings for mine from www.lymmengineparts.co.uk They were in Hastings. I generally have to replace them quite often. They do burn out if you are increasing boost pressure. I suppose the next stage for me would be a set of Forged Mahle Motorsport pistons. Need to count out a few more coins first though!!

There was a map tweak from Subaru UK to try and help, but I get the feeling it doesn't.
Keep away from the rev limiter, I hit it once for the briefest of times (missed a gear) and I think that was all it needed to crack 2 pistons

Hi beanys. Did u manage to get your exhaust fitted mate?? Nearest for us mate is clinic or area 52 . Clinic for me as pat worked is magic on my classic and been happy with it for the last 3 years running 335 . Never used area 52 know lots who have though . Be looking best part of £300 so better to fit a sports cat, or decat .and anything else like induction kit before u venture up there . You don't wanna pay twice nice car by the way mate enjoy it . Don't let all the bad comments get to u even a fully built forged 2.35 will blow up if not treated right . If it breaks mend it only better 👍 my hatch only did 8900 miles from new before toasting an engine . Fingers crossed it's all sorted now loving life at 27000 . Stay away from bouncing off the limiter set your shift light at a reasonable rpm and enjoy your car for wot you brought it for
