Default New age Front brembo calipers on the rear

has anyone put a set of front new age brembo calipers on the rear? looking at putting a set of Ap 6 pot's on the front and pondering on upgrding the rears by putting the front claipers on the back, i realise it will need adaptors, but has anyone done it?

This sounds interesting; don't see why you couldn't machine something up to retrofit them, let us know how you get on!

Hi
No it cannot be done , you would need a huge diameter disc to fit if you could mount the brackets to the hubs , but then the piston size is too big for a rear caliper and you would never stop it locking the rear wheels up , the front calipers are totally wrong for a rear fitment
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

As Ian said, you really don't want to be locking the rear wheels up. Don't go too big on the rears, std brembo rears will be fine with a decent front setup.

Same answer , calipers and pistons too big for rears

As above , STi Brembo rears will suit most people , the AP 4 pot is the next step up , but these use a small 4 pot caliper with small pistons , which fit on a 335mm one piece AP disc

Cheers Ian

Maybe you should read this as it might help you understand brakes

I'm pretty sure you could easily lock up the rears at any speed with just a set of rear brembo 2 pots (and probably even single piston no name's) under threshold braking on the fronts if the balance was set up as such. So much weight will shift to the front that the rears really do very little under extreme braking and the balance is in stopping them locking up rather than giving them more braking force.

standard brembo calipers with the right disc and pads will handle 500bhp,the only problem that I found was on track when the callipers themselves cannot handle very hard use as I turned a set of Gold brembos pink but that was the front ones the rear two pots are quite adequate at those power levels.SJ.

Out of curiosity what are peoples thoughts on rear pads? Given they take far less punishment than the front is the consensus that you can put some cheaper pads on the rear even for track work?

F1 is quite interesting as they fiddle with the brake bias quite a lot, the downforce of the rear wing means the rear axle has different force applied through it is slow corners compared to fast corners so the weight transfer of the braking might be much more significant in a slow corner compared to a quick corner meaning less or more bias to the rear is needed.

your post applies to high performing Front WD cars but not High Performance 4WD / RWD cars................in particular on 4wd you need the car to pull itslef down evenly to get the maximum retardation possible
