Default New brakes advice please

Hi Guys,

I’m new here, recently acquired a old 1994 Classic WRX, which I’ve bought as a project shed, with the intention of using for track days and some clubman road rallying.

The one thing it needs is new brakes all around.

The Calipers are pretty tired, so it needs a new setup all round.

I’ve been looking on Godspeed for options of new Calipers, Disks and pads.

Trouble is there is so much choice and a wide range of prices from a few hundred to several thousands.

So what is the consensus on what would be the best performance and value for new brakes, disks and Calipers for the front and rear.

Also goes without say8ng I shall fit new performance brake houses all around too.

Welcome any advice and input.

Thanks in advance.

It really comes down to how much money that you want/have to spend, but if it was me....I would first see if you can pick up a set of STI brembo calipers and disc with a decent pad upgrade "you need 17" wheels to fit",as the standard callipers on those WRX are not up to the job.SJ.

I'd be picking up my phone and talking it through with ian at godspeed.

You'll not get better advice.
And from Brum, not a long haul to Bridgend either.

I would not, he is after money and do not sell what he states
He does kits only with his discs
I would not take his discs for free
Would use as performance to speak but i will buy new kit with ap 9040 -forged alloy calipers and painted with nicer long lasting red paint
even if You pay 2k for ap's You can sell them used later for 1.3-1.4k
Have kit with 362mm ap racing discs from graham goode, could made a pics if You wish, not for sale just to give You idea
Looks nice with gold bells to

I have a set of gold sti brembos, as performance grooved discs and Kevlar pads
That I will be putting up for sale this afternoon on here, the discs are 5x100 fitment
So the setup would be a direct fit for what you have if interested drop us a line ..

Oh the village idiot is back !

We can offer you various options both front and rear , what size wheels are you looking to use , with road rallying you could make the Subaru 4 pot works well , even some stage rallying , I have used them in the past on a Clubman Group A GC8 I had and even won a rally outright with them.
For good tarmac rallies or track use I would look to go better , depending on your wheels , you could fit the STi Brembo brakes , but the fronts don't fit under a lot of wheels.
Then factor in good discs and pads to take the heat and abuse you will see.

We offer a very competitively priced kit to fit under 17's , using our 330mm 2 piece discs and bells , Brand new one piece Brembo 4 pot calipers , a choice of pads , alloy brackets , and we offer this kit complete for £999 , it uses the same pad as the STi Brembo's , but uses a slimmer version Brembo caliper.

From there either a 330mm or 355mm 2 piece disc and bell kit but with AP CP9040 6 pot calipers , pads and brackets

There are a couple of options for the rear as well , I wouldn't bother sticking with the original 266mm rears discs and 1 pot calipers , we offer fitting kits to fit the 2001 onwards WRX 290mm discs and Subaru 2 pot calipers on , as well of the 2001 onwards STi 316mm discs and Brembo 2 pot calipers .
We can offer a WRX kit of reconditioned Subaru 2 pot calipers , grooved discs , good pads and fitting kit for about £500.
Or a STi rear set up with BRAND NEW brembo 2 pot calipers for around £750 , depending on what your doing with your handbrake.

So quite a few options to go for , depending on budget and wheels size .
If you need any further info please ring

Cheers Ian
