Default Brake Fluid choice

A few weeks back i went for a drive out, covered around 250 mile over 6ish hrs along to Snowdonia national park and then up to the northern coast of wales. On my way home i had to pull over as i lost the brake pedal completely. Since this ive been through all the brakes and everything seems fine. Ive replaced the pins and retainers as at the last dealer service they are on the invoice as being rusty and causing the brakes to stick.
Now when driving the pedal feels spongy so i think i need to replace the fluid next as im guessing the heat damaged it. Ive been looking at the Motul RBF600, has anyone used this before? Also ive found info which says the system holds only .5 litres of fluid is this correct? Thinking if i buy 1 litre that will cover me.
Thanks for any help guys.

I won't run anything but RBf600. Not let me down yet and made a massive difference
