Warning - M4 laser van at night
Not sure if anyone else has seen this, first time for me, but tonight around 7.30pm on one of the bridges on the M4 between Coryton and Cardiff Gate.
I was in middle lane and spotted a van on one of the bridges, and assumed it was a works van, but got closer and released it was a laser van - targeting traffic travelling east. I even came off at Cardiff Gate and drove back to Coryton and then back again to check. I cant be certain whether I was travelling at a speed high enough to get done, but the car that flew past me in the outside certainly hit the brakes a bit hard !
So, I suppose I have 14 days wait - so firstly, anyone else seen this, or worse been unlucky enough to be caught at night by it, and secondly, be carefull !!
Gareth

I saw the same van twice after going down to Newport and back after 6pm, it's not a speed camera van but an ANPR van checking for road tax, MOT tests and insurance dodgers.
I slowed down and they had 3 camera on tripods monitoring traffic going eastbound, I don't mind those vans as at least their catching all the cheating scum who don't tax, MOT or insure their cars.

I hope you are right, as it was dark I couldn't make out the usual cameras/tripods, but as I drove underneath I could clearly see the light through the open side window silhouetting a laser camera.
If you are correct then its a good job I renewed the tax online last night, as its up toda

They can't use the speed camera vans in fog, low light or at night as they by law are not allowed to use any methods to enhance the image taken by the camera.
You can tell an ANPR van as they have 2 windows in both rear doors to accommodate the 4 rear facing ANPR cameras, the one seen today did actually say ANPR clearly on the side of the van.
Don't worry there not used for monitoring speed.

Cheers CF - Im normallly well clued up regarding ANPR/tax/speed cameras, and have never seen the laser vans in use at night, which is why I was concerned. In the dark, after a long day, and even with a second look I'd have sworn it was a laser van, but Im glad someone had a better look in the light !!
Cheers, Gareth
