Apart from the fact tyres will be more expensive is there any reason why I shouldn't or couldn't fit 19" whheels to my new age WRX?
I want to fill the arches.
Am I right in thinking that it will affect the car's take off ability?

Will diffinately effect the handling though, and not in a good way

Wrong
handling is fine
acceleration is also fine
you'll find the speedo is more accurate

As long as the rolling radius does not change..... then speed/top speed/acceleration will NOT be affected.....
with a 19" er.... there will just be less rubber (depth)between you and the tarmac

Although Subaru, Prodrive and most of the major Scooby tuners dont reccommend it. 18" is the maximum reccomended size as any more and the handling will be badly effected. Not to mention that the 19" will cause the wheel bearings to go ALOT quicker!

Put it this way whilst at driver training at prodrive the instructor comented on how he'd never come accross a road going impreza with so much grip

I fitted 18" wheels to my bugeye and even though there's more grip (and looks better
), it doesn't drive as well as it did on 17's, it seems to track and tramline a lot more now.
I can only assume this would increase even more on 19's?

. The PFF7's are lighter, recommended etc but I must admit the 17's where OKBut, if your sure and the profile is right go on try it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
To fill the arches why not get some Eibachs and it will lower about 25/30mm (Rob/Rich?)

The alternative which was my first thoughts was to fit 18" and lower by 30mm on eibachs. But someone said that it would place extra strain on the dampers etc which would shorten their life. If its a simple case of fitting just the springs then i would do that but i dont want the fuss of a full suspension upgrade. TBH I dont drive my car to that level.

Pretty Much Smack on Dragoon
Powerstation Wanted £100 +Vat for Fitting my springs and £140 quid for alignment for fast road settings but that was with the bump steer mod which im still not convinced about
As for 18's and drops im using the 50MM drop H&R springs and 18" Rotas with 215/35/18s the same as Silver Scooby Sport as he has never seemed to have a problem and the last few times ive travelled in his car i havent noticed a difference in ride quality or handling.
Cheers
Ian

Subaru offer 19" oz's wheels as a dealer option on new age impreza so shouldn't cause any problems at, CVC had a demo STI a while back with a set of 19's on.
If the overall rolling circumference is larger which i think it is very slightly, then sammy is right it will make your speedo more accruate at high speed, but pippyrips is also right it will also reduce acceleration and increase top speed, but this is all very minamal and you probably won't even be able to tell.

Yep, Dragoon is right. I have 18" Rota's on mine (with dubious tyre sizes that were already on it when I bought it - 235/40/18) and with Eibach's, they fill the arches perfectly.

i had a 5 series BMW that found every rut in the road when running on 245 and 255. 235 is about right.
