Default ECU diagnostics

Hi all

I'm based near swansea and my wrx has been running a bit ****e lately, i think it maybe overfuelling or similar as mileage has decreased, she's running poor and now and again misses when changing gears, its not right so I could really do with taking it too someone who knows what their doing and can maybe have a look at it for me.

is there anyone local that can do an ECU reset and check any ECU error codes? i'm getting worried that the maf or something similar is buggered

If your in Swansea I would look at taking a trip over to Carmarthen to DRJ Motors I think they are called... some of the local boys talk very highly on here of them. I don't have the contact details myself but I bet someone will see this and help you out with that part.

I have read several threads relating to ECU reset, some say to remove the battery connectors over night but from what I gather the ECU still remember's some of the original settings... most recently I read that a main dealer can simply reset the ECU for you in a few minutes and it starts completely original again.
I think it's safe to say it's a grey area at the least.

either that if your car is a MY99 or newer plug in someones secs monitor if you know someone thats got one, you can reset the ecu on those and it'll check for faults and give you the codes if it finds any.

I found out what has been causing the problem, simply didnt see it before.

I had it serviced in a garage about 2-3 months ago and when they changed the air filter, they had forgotten to put the 4 bolts back which holds the pipe to the filter box so it was just swinging around pretty much, not connected to the filter box at all.

Its been like that for at least 2 months now so could it have possibly damaged anything? I imagine at least thats it buggered up the ECU settings for air intake?

thoughts anyone?
