Mine has yet another stunning joke:

What did the Policeman say to his stomach?

You're under a vest.

They have gills and fins - same as fish, but don't lay eggs, they give birth internally.

Oh yes it is.

It isn't a member of the teleost (bony) fishes, but it is a fish nontheless.

Actually, dolphins can kill sharks.

They also get aroused around humans sometimes, if you are approached by a dolphin with a blushing pink belly, watch out.

Which explains why cows have evolved to live on fields, away from the Amazon.

Bubba - I thought pure sharks were in a class of their own, and only shark-like fish (Chondrichthyes) were classed as fish.

Thought that shark being a fish was just a popular misconception.

They are classified as elasmobranch fishes, as far as I'm aware. The world of taxonomy is a minefield, though.

The problem with the word "fish" is that it's so widely used and so imprecise, sometimes the popular conception of classification is almost impossible to reconcile with strict scientific methods. Three classes of fishes are recognised:

Class Agnatha (primitive jawless fishes, Hagfish and lampreys)

Class Chondrichthyes (Sharks, Rays, etc.)

Class Osteichthyes (Bony fish)

You were definitely nright that they are in their own class.
