DIY Window Tinting
Hello peeps,
Has anyone out there done diy window tinting and did it work???
I'm thinking about doing it myself and was wondering what the tinting film you can get is like ie will it last?!?!?
I checked out youtube for some instructional guides and I'm quite confident that i have the skill level to be able to do it so its just a case of if the tints will be good enough quality.
Thank you for reading

Get it done by a pro, it might cost more but will be worth it in the end. Not only that they will have the right tint i.e. percentage of tint for each window. More important now that Mr Plod has the right to measure your tint with his new light meter!!
Thank you for the advice, it's only gonna cost me 15 quid and I'm not going infront of the B pillar (which is where Mr Plod is interested in).
I'll keep you posted on my progress when the tint arrives....
PS IMHO Mr Plod needs to get a life with some of his bulls**t charges

It'll cost you a lot more than £15, believe me.
If you're just doing the sides then you might be okay, but if you're planning on doing the back, it'll cost you...
£15 for the film
a couple of hours frustration
£15 for another lot of film, 'cos you'll be sure that you must be able to do it right the second time
another couple of hours of frustration
another £15 for some more film, 'cos you'll be determined that you're not going to let a simple job like this get the better of you
and then the going rate for a pro to do the lot in under 50 minutes.
I speak from experience, go to a pro to start with

IIRC my rear and rear sides cost £130 by a pro, I would never attempt this myself... the rear window on mine is one single sheet it was very interesting to watch one guy with three arms fit it
I know I'll prob be on here next week moaning about how **** the tint film is but I love a challange and my budget is low so I just gotta get it right!!!
Youtube rocks and I've been getting some lessons on tinting!! (Heatgun at the ready)
Plus at work, I've got an Aircraft hangar to do the tinting in so I'll be able to keep out of this typically british weather!!!
I know you are proberly all shaking your head, tutting and screaming "GO TO A PRO" right now but please just keep an eye out for the winner or loser post!!!
The kit hasn't turned up yet so I'll keep you posted

Aslong as you buy the decent film it's actually quite easy if you follow the instructions and videos on the net, i did my side windows fairly easily, 2 attempts i think it took, i've got a Smart Roadster so frameless the same as the Impreza, my back window i did first time somehow but it's not half as big as the Impreza one, i think that might be your downfall, definitely need 2 pairs of hands for that, just watch out for dust and hairs from the parcelshelf, a very sharp knife and plenty of soapy water is the key
Mine cost me nothing to fit
I got the rear door windows and rear windscreen from a donor car, factory fit tinted windows direct from Japan
Actually I tell a lie, it cost 40 quid for Autoglass to swap rear windscreens, and I now have a rear wiper too again for free

Tomorrow is judgement day.........time to find out if I have the skills to be a window tinter........
I'll be fitting the tints in a barn following a surgical style dust and dirt removal exercise!!!
I've cut the tint to size roughly and tomoz is the time to get out my soapy water and get kinky!!!
I'll let you know how it goes then start taking orders for knockdown price tinting!!!

Hello peeps,
Well I had my attempt at window tinting and it went reletively well.....
All but the back window that is I'm getting the heatgun back off the father in law tommorrow to try and sort it out as there is a lot of folds round the edge!!
Should have prob listened to the majority verdict but I didn't have £200 to play with this month so my adventurous nature got the better of me!!!!
