Hi, the car hasn't been detailed, the paint isn't great up close and my bodyworks guy talked about a 2pack gloss black paint like a Toyota corolla coupe, the car is getting fitted with a v6 spoiler, v-limited roof vent, bigger bonnet scoop and a p1 splitter. I would love some ideas of a nice tone of black even like the newer model impreza black of the 2004 model.

I'd stay clear on the bigger scoop, look wrong on classics. You should just go for original black or take it to a detailer. They may be able to save it for a fraction of the cost

I think the car looks great as it is. Don't start sticking all that stuff on it. If anything just rr spray black.

cheers boys, its a little late to hold off, as I have these items, removing the side and rear stickers also and fitting crystal headlights and sidelights, coilover suspension and 18" gold alloys. the colour is my main worry.

Seriously keep to the oem paint code and put more clear coat layers on... if you stray from oem you devalue the type-R

Those decals are actually really bloody expensive too btw, a mate had a black type-r and when selling up wanted to return all the mods he'd done cosmetically back to OEM to boost it's now increasing value

if there's even the merest hint of rear arch rust don't respray until its dealt with the right way.

oh and do whatever you want so-long as you store the original parts for the future, but keep the bumper as is and get a second one if you insist on fitting the splitter

When you say 'v-limited roof vent' is that the proper subaru opening item or some stick on thing? Can only echo the above about the bonnet scoop too, the larger ones look so wrong on classics.

The roof vent was got from a guy breaking a type r v-limited so it's a genuine part and it's been fitted (not yet painted) and my bodywork man was very pleased with how well fitting it has worked out he thought it would have been a nightmare but all parts and interior trims came with it. I had a 95 wrx Type RA and I loved the big scoop, aggressive looking. I have googled Subaru blacks and I like this one you have mentioned, (obsidian black metallic) nice colour, some blacks seem either too dead or too jet black and shiny, this one is a happy medium shade.thanks

There's nothing wrong with the standard black on your car mate, just give it a good polish now and again and it will always shine.
