Hi all, hate to make this my first post but I have tried using search not just here but on other forums as well, just ended up confusing myself.
I've just bought a 2004 bugeye WRX Wagon with my girlfriend to replace her old car - just had a baby and needed something a little bigger.
Anyway the car came with Prodrive 18's in anthracite, but the car is black and she thinks it looks too pimped up for her to respectably drive around in. Without spending money on having them refurbed again (she said she will only f**k them up anyway) I'm looking for something to go over the Brembos on the front. Preferably the cheapest I can find.
From what I'm reading I need newage 17" STI alloys with 100x5 PCD.
I'm seriously confusing the hell out of myself looking at all these damned wheels, but have found these. I THINK they're WRX wheels but the guy has said they clear Brembos? https://www.gumtree.com/p/wheel-rims...ale/1260568232
The spokes on newage sti go wider towards the tyre don't they, these don't look right?
My other question is I want to stay to stock tyre size, which is 225/45/17 ?
Some other thread I found said 225/45 will scrub but to me that doesn't make sense as it was the stock STI tyre size? My car isn't lowered or anything, all stock suspension.
I'll be posting a new member post soon, just need to give the new car a good wash and polish first.
I'll also be selling my prodrive 18s if anyone may be interested. I'll grab a membership to post in the sales section.
Hi, welcome - looking forward to the pics of the wagon. Not sure changing between 17s and 18s will make much difference to its pimpedness, especially if the ones you have are in anthracite already. Ask her if she'd rather have a £100 necklace or you spend £200 on new wheels?
If you have Brembos on the front then you can't use standard WRX 17" wheels, you have to use STI ones. Make sure you get the right PCD but apart from that, OEM STI 17s will fit over Brembos. That's what I have on my wagon, in anthracite:
Of those links you'll need to ask the ebay seller whether they are 5x100 or 5x114.3, but they should fit. The ones on the gumtree ad are stock WRX wheels so will not fit.
Well the idea is she says black car and essentially black wheels looks too dark with tinted rear windows as well, so trying to find some silver ones. Selling the prodive alloys currently on the car will cover the cost and some.
The seller for the eBay ones said those came off his 2004 sti so shouod fit fine. But I thought those style sti wheels were from a later model.
Can anyone confirm those style wheels did come in 100×5 fitment?! I just want to be totally sure before I drive for 2 hours to collect them!
Thanks
none of those in the links will fit bud, the set on ebay is 114 pcd and the others wont clear brembos. the pcd changed in 2005 to 114. you need a set like on the wagon in the pic. check breakers section on here matty from mb developments will sort you out. heres a link to a car he is breaking just now with the wheels you need https://www.scoobynet.com/full-cars-...ng-extras.html
Bleurgh I thought that might be the case which is a shame because I prefer those nearer style wheels!
She also doesn't like the gold colour so I've basically got to find some in silver, or find a set cheap enough that might need a refurb in silver. She's being awfully picky!
I'm visiting my Subaru mechanic later today, he generally has a few sets kicking about usually with tyres on. I'll ask for prices and get you some pictures. Unless you are prepared to collect (6 hour round trip), I suspect you'll need to pay £50~ for delivery using the common carriers.
What about these ones? I don't recognise them but it's listed as sti and 5x100! Are they an older style, should still fit over the brembo if hope?

Robert.
Happy to pay postage if he had something half decent, just needs to be silver and fits over front brembo! Thanks!
I'm not 100% sure, but they don't look like a standard Subaru wheel, so that said I doubt they are off any "newage" STI model which means they wont fit over Brembo's.

I've got 18 OZ Prodrive at the moment, only refurbished by previous owner a few months ago and with brand new Toyo Proxes on them. If it was just my car then I'd keep them on there but the lady says black car with black wheels is too much, and she's probably gonna make a mess of them! As soon as I sort out replacements they'll be going up for sale.
I'll give Cams a call tomorrow if I get time Rob, cheers!
I called in today pal, Brian wasn't in at the time so I didn't get chance to ask, so best to ring the mobile number
Just gave him a bell, nice bloke! He's got 2 sets one with budget tyres £200 or a set with real good tyres £300, just need to work out the best way go courier them.
The other thing they're both gold like most I've come across. Does anyone have any experience with rattle can spraying alloys? Just a case of sanding them down as much as possible then spraying?

Pay the extra for the set with decent tyres, it'll cost you more to fit proper ones than the £100 difference.
I can't believe your girlfriend would rather have spray-painted silver wheels than half-decent gold ones, have you checked with her?
£240 to refurbish wheels properly, that includes tyres off and on inc balancing etc......... Brian has a contact who I can also vouch for as he did a great job on mine.
Well I've got to run it past her again, I'll find some better pictures of black wagons with gold sti wheels on but I think she said "bit bling for me" when I showed her before?!
The Scooby garage I've used in the past is the same who did all the work on this car for the previous owner - he did the refurb on the current prodrive wheels for £200 all in.
I'll probably go for the refurb and colour change, the main issue is that it seems silly to spend around £500 on fresh wheels when the point is that my good lady is probably going to make a mess of them fairly soon anyway. If I could do a half decent job myself then it's going to be a free swap over from what we have. Then again if I can get a decent price for the prodive then it might be worth it anyway.
I hadn't asked what other wheels he had no, didn't occur to me! I'll give him another call tomorrow when I've talked to the boss.
I've been trying to find time to wash and polish the car, get some pictures and make a post but we've got a 5 week old baby so time is a bit non existent at the moment. I found the pictures from the car sale so I'll use those and try do it this evening! I've started tinkering with it already a tiny bit and have a couple of other questions!
I've got AP's on my Bug WRX and although no as big as Brembos, they are still too bug for stock WRX wheels. However, I just needed to fit 3mm spacers for them to clear. So spacers maybe an option, seeing as WRX wheels are far cheaper and numerous to buy than STi ones. I'm sure someone will know how much additional clearance is needed.
