Just to broaden this out a little, it's not just other peoples' money that's been lost, is it? Off the back of the collapse of this Ponzi scheme, we have a NHS that's struggling to find the required funding, students rioting, and, dare I say it, a weakened defence at a time when the World order has the potential to swing to our disadvantage.

If these minds worth millions were able to conjure up £s, €s and $s out of thin air, it's not unreasonable to assume that the same minds would have been able to predict the inevitable worldwide collapse of their scheme. By extension, they would have known the social disorder that would follow. They weren't just gambling with other peoples' money, they were gambling with the country's future and with no apparent penalty for losing.
