Question

Following on from that cut-short thread about a really groovy-looking paging car alarm, can anyone advise on what's good by way of paging alarms?

I'm looking for total closure, but Cat 1 approval doesn't matter - insurers don't care one way or the other. Engine start would be funky, but definitely not required. The important thing is the pager really - I'd much prefer to know the car was getting nicked

Anyhoo - has anyone got any advice/suggestions?

Thanks

Sigma m30 has option for a pager. nut it was rather big and clunky.

Whilst in andorra I saw loads of shops selling car alarms that ring a proper pager nice.

What I want is for it to ring my mobile phone.

I have a new Siemens GSM pager to evaluate. It uses a pay as you go SIM and will dial up to 3 numbers you choose. I'm hoping to install it over the next few weeks and will keep everybody posted on the results.Likely cost is going to be £299+VAT.

Wink

Toad do a pager, but it has quite a short range,it doesnt actually use the phone service, its more similar to a walkie talkie.
Maximum range is about a mile in good conditions(across a field!).

Costs about £80 ish.Can be installed as a stand alone unit.

Cool

GPS tracking device that is connectable to an alarm/whatever. Again GSM P&G sim but get tracking with it

This is customisable & will alert you if say, alarm goes off, door opens, car moves more than 30 yds from last "ok" position, speed exceeds 45 mph & you can ask it to, beep horn/flash indicators, let off stink bombs, disable turbo, whatever you want.

Not a bureau service, so be careful of what action taken...

I dont see the point of having a pager car alarm that alerts you via your mobile phone.
I personally wouldn't like to know that my car has or is being robbed or stolen when im 25 miles away at work.
fare egnouth if you are at home and the car is on the drive , or your car is in a car park near where you work.
thats my opinion anyway.

Cool

Me?

Me, I'd prefer to be far away when my car is getting robbed/nicked whatever, as my tendancy is to come over all macho & hot-headed & go rushing out to confront them

Yer man in Leeds at Christmas is a good example of why thats not a sensible idea

It's not really a pager alarm in the true sense of the term, more of an intelligent module which will do things or react to things after programming. One of the things it can do is alert you to things happening to your car, via a mobile phone. You can also program it via a mobile phone.

Most alarms with an output that is triggered when the alarm goes off can fairly easily be made to call a number using a mobile phone. Program it into the speed dial and away you go.

If you use an old pay as you go/virgin phone there's no line rental either.
