Default 6 speed gearbox rebuild

Hi guys. My sons gearbox in his WR1 is crunching between gears 3 and 4 when on boost. I'm wondering if someone knows where he can get it rebuilt. It's a dccd gearbox and only done 60,000 miles. Didn't expect problems at that mileage.

API springs to mind.

Has it had a hard life, or a dodgy driver operating it?

My son bought the car at 51'000 miles with full service history from crossroads. It has had a minor service at crossroads and a full service, all oils, plugs, filters etc at Arden Bridge.
I can't comment on its life before my sons purchase but it has wanted for nothing since, and he doesn't rag it.

I didn't think the WR1 had dccd, but API would be the place to go for sure.

We can fix that for you at APi. It'll need an upgrade to carbon coated synchro rings which will fix it forvere.

Best to get it done ASAP, as the crunching is damaging the gear and the hub, which might yet be salvageable.

Call me for a sensible conversation and a best guess quote [ until we get it in bits ]

Good Luck no matter who you call, David

My WR1 had same issue and API rebuilt it when in care of the prior owner. All good now.

Unknown just yet, until the box is apart. If it is as simple as fitting the 3 carbon coated rings, then probably somewhere around £500 - £600 + VAT with the box out of the car.

But as soon as you need gears or synchro hub outer rings it can rise. Replacing selector forks can be expensive too. That's why it is better to get it done sooner rather than later.

Most come in under £1000.00 though.
