Default Mazda 3 MPS BBR????

Just been out for a blast after a few little jobs.

This all happened on high boost but without meth, I had a passenger in, he was on his own.

It seemed no one was playing but a white 61 plate Mazda 3 MPS pulled up at some lights, could see he was looking so presumed he might give it a go. Without wanting to sound to confident unless its something that I think will give me a run for my money I don't use launch control (awaiting fitment of uprated engine and gearbox mounts), so tend to give them a little start.

He went for it from the green so I did the usual get the car rolling then floor it..........by the time I had slotted second I pulled alongside and then third pulled maybe 3 car lengths until I slotted 4th as we had to slow down for some other traffic.

He got up my **** so as we went through a roundabout and got some clear air again I booted it in second and third again pulled away from him maybe 4 or 5 car lengths but to be honest it kept much better pace then I expected or then a lot of other stuff I encounter does. Obviously I was quicker but didn't embarrass him like the car can do at times.

Anyway abit further down the road I pulled in to take a slip road off the dual carriageway and he went past with his thumb up (yes thumb not finger!), car had BBR tuning sticker on the back (not sure if that means anything I guess, could just be a sticker) but considering the car did better then I thought wondered if anyone Knew the spec or has come across a similar thing.

I'm not 100% but I thought they have the same 2.5 engine found in the Ford Focus??? So if it's been tweaked then it would be quite a nippy car

The early shape is cracking value for money bar the road tax. Not the prettiest of cars either, the new ones however are very nice.

Sold my 420 hp classic and brought an mps 2.3 turbo and for what they are standard form very capable car just need 4wd then be perfect but I've surprised a few impreza s in it and mines only standard form for now and u should pull away in first and second they have a torque limiter in first and second 3rd gear is when it really strparts pulling and stops wheel spinning lol very underestimated cars

I seriously considered one of these, however, 265BHP and FWD put me off a bit. Good looking motors, especially in white.

The wife has a 10 plate 3MPS in pearl white that she got (with a bit of encouragement from me) after a redundancy payout.
It's a nice car but the boost restriction in 1st and 2nd really makes itself felt but it pulls well in the higher gears and is very flexible(it has to be with her driving!), boosting from just over 2k. I haven't had the opportunity to drive it without her in it so I can't say what it really goes like.
For a car with 'sporty' pretensions, the lack of instrumentation (dreadful little bar type boost gauge) is a shame - it hasn't even got a temperature gauge! just a useless blue light that goes out when it gets no more than warm! The woman that lives in the satnav has quite a sexy voice, though.

I was toying with buying an STI, but my company car rules stopped me so went for an MPS, have been to BBR to get tuned and it makes the car surprisingly quick, especially removing the limiters. I was running around 320bhp and It handles the power very well, does torque steer a bit on crappy roads but it makes it a bit of an animal, which can be fun.

Things have moved on a bit in the MPS tuning scene recently so there are a few MPS's out there that will be a fair bit quicker then the BBR car the OP came across.

I've had a run with an STI when we found ourselves sat behind 4 slow moving cars, came to a good overtaking spot and we both moved to overtake, but i quickly found myself having to get off the power so i didn't drive up its rear, at higher speeds they do pull hard as they're tourquey engines.

I did managed to blow by turbo seals, so now have a GTX bolted on, as you do.

I got owned by one of these at the ring when I was visiting for the first time in my 987 Boxster S.....they are quick, especially when tweaked by the alchemists at BBR!

It's only £270, not that daft. The older Mk1's with a whole 3 CO2's more does fall into the higher band though.

Right lets debunk all the myths here .
firstly i really wanted a hawkeye but that engine made me run to the hills .

so i got this instead below .

Now if its a 61 plate its a mk2 like mine so thats 270£ on tax .
They have a proper mechanical LSD and DO NOT torquesteer as standard.

When i was standard a focus RS only pulled 2-3 lengths on me even when we got to 4th so these arent slow at all.

The one the OP came up against could have been anywhere from a claimed 290 to 350 bhp but i reckon that it was closer to 290 with just a bbr remap .

He aint popped up on the forum saying a scooby beat him ,not sure he will if hes on it .

My mates dad has a 03 wrx sti with a claimed 330bhp so i think im going to line the cars up and see what happens .

My spec is about 320bhp +

hpfp (golf gti fuel pump)
tmic
cobb ap
corksport intake
2nd decat delete
downpipe(to be fitted)

any questions on them appreciated .

Power and luxury....

Well i bet the bbr was running more than a map ! See they do packages so you cant really pin point it could have a GTX turbo on it ,you just dont know .
However your car has some power and it just shows how the DISI produces smooth power and torque across the whole rev range to hang with you.
