I havent used it but i have seen many many attempts of people trying various smart repairs and touch ups and none of them have been a good job.

What is it your trying to do/touch up? Any pics?

Tried it on blue/black, looks like candle wax has been poured into the scratch - useless

All "Smart" repairs are ****e.

I agree with all the comments so far,but I think that deep chips and scratches should by covered to stop the dreaded rust taking hold

I touch chips in with a tiny bit of paint on a toothpick. Two layers and one lacquer, the Crystal Grey I got from my dealer is spot on.

They never look "perfect" but Jap paint will always reveal battle scars!

Chips Away did a van at work yesterday, absolute rubbish. And he charged £60 + VAT the thief.

I have used it on the bonnet - WR Blue.
Transformed the peppered look & the paint match was perfect.
I wouldn't hesitate to use again on what's called road rash.
I don't think it is suitable for deeper scratches but you can make a deeper scratch look better with this kit.

Does it wipe off the good paint easily or does it stay raised up?

That link stuff looks ****, it will prob make it look less noticeable but it's really only good for non metallic paint, you can make a metallic paint a different colour just from having the wrong air pressure when spraying.

Chips Away can be good if you find a decent one but although they are a chain there staff are mostly not qualified and are taught by someone who has done a day's course on painting.

Smart repairs can be done right but it takes alot of knowledge, i did smart repairs for a year for alot of main dealers and on the whole they would be happy, blending lacquer is the hard part, on blacks it is the worst..

Post a pic of what you are trying to repair and i'll give some advice.

I have worked in smart repair, private and insurance bodyshops. Some smart repairs are really good, but it all depends on the painter. If you find a imi ATA painter it means that the bloke has had to pass written and practical testing, this is done On a regular basis in order to keep thier satus. Where and what do you need painting? Area on the car will play a key role, some areas can't be smart repaired. stiofan, your spot on, I can make one pot of paint look 5 different shades by changing pressure, temperature, fluid tip needle set up and gun angles. Used some good fade out thinners recently made by lechler that I would recomend.

It works as well as the organic applicator can make a massive difference to road rash, which to be fair is all it really claims to help

I have used it on various size chips and after polishing you cannot see the repair; its not easy to start with, but once you suss out how to apply it it's good. Would not recommend on deep scratches though. Chipex sell a small ammount of paint, developer and applicators for about £20.00; worth a try!

I've used the Chipex stuff and it worked well for me.
Apply paint, quick wipe flat with your thumb, and after letting it dry use the solution to remove the excess paint.
I found that with deeper chips you needed two or three attempts.
Then a quick polish with the coloured stuff supplied.
