Afternoon all,

I have been weighing up the idea of the ABW arches for some time but really want to try and get a final costing down on paper as I have a few other bits to complete (for now) my project.

My current wheels are Rotas and they are flush with the arches (actually scrubs a tad when cornered hard). Obviously the ABW arches will add a wider foot print so these will need to be spaced out. Can this be done safely? Or do I need a new wheel and if so, what am I looking out for (fitment and width)

I understand it is a big job but I think the look you and driveability you end up with is worth it. Perhaps!

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Decent set of hubcentric spacers tho they will have to be pretty thick running normal offset wheels. They do a not so wide arch aswell. I just bit the bullet and bought wheels with a decent offset to fit arches. im not keen on spacers

Thanks for the reply and my thoughts exactly expecially as there would be 400/500bhp going through them! What offset did you go for? Have you any pics? Cheers

With the greatest of respect I couldn't give a monkeys left bollock about you opinion. They scrub as mentioned in thread opener. So do you think they have been rolled?

Any other posts to go in my pointless opinion bin? Or perhaps answers to my questions.

Well tooche riiidaa, thanks for the information and the link.

Unsure on the smaller arches as I do want to get extra grip from this aswell so the wider the better I recon.

Apologies if I seem rude, but on forums sometimes people miss the point for the thread and instead offer their opinion on what your car should look like!

Similar story for me, except I got the wheels I craved, then realised I'd have to run wider arches and crucially, longer hub studs. Specifically Skyline ones.

That's ok, as they say, opinions are like arseholes right?

If you do change for wider wheels, and need the studs rather than hubcentric spacers, the skyline ones I mentioned had the right thread pitch and m12 rings a bell, got mine from Merlin motorsport when I explained what I needed over the phone.

As above im using 18x9.5 Rota fighters off a skyline et35 I may need a 5-10mm spacer still im currently doing my arches at the minute. But wheels stick out the standard arches just over 40mm

Kind of answered your own question there.... wider alloys = wider tyres = more grip

So forget spacers get some nice rota grid drifts

personally im not a fan of the ABW arches, so ill be going for the HT autos wide body kit or similar....

This is not always the case I don't think, the increase in width (Contact patch) would provide a lower amount of pressure? Did a search http://www.f1technical.net/forum/vie...hp?f=6&t=12762

well i got to the second post on that and gave up haha

I thoguth it was simple physics wider tyre = more tread on the road = more girp? Otherwise, why do race cars have such wide tyres and mot like bicycle tyres if theres no grip advantage? lol

I gave up, as well, yes I take your point regarding race cars, but they are calculating what widths to use and have extra sticky non-road legal rubber. Lets not forget drift cars have wide tyres too.

right
you will need 18x9 or bigger low offset alloys , if you want to run spacers aswell (i have) you will need 63 mm competition studs , i am running 18x9.5et35 with 255,40,18 tyres on mine and could even go bigger if i wanted .

Yeah mine are the same size as mags I got multi fit rotas off a skyline so had 5x114 and 5x100 :-)
Mags what width spacer you use. Fronts looking good but rears could come out a bit also take them away from shock as it's literally 5mm away from it.

I fitted some rota fighter drift 18"x10" with a 20 offset to mine and they are absolutely spot on,running 265x35x18 tyres at the minute but may go 275/285 when time to renew as there`s plenty of room,best thing i ever did to mine,looks awesome and handles like a gokart.
