Hi all,

I have stepped up the hunt for a scoob and have seen alot in my price range (up to 3.5k for a bug) that are approaching 100k, i know its related to how the car has been looked after is more important than raw mileage but despite this i have reservations about purchasing one with this mileage. What is classed as high mileage??

bought my classic in november 126000 miles, its been to scoobyworld and a local mechanic whos had 20 scoobs his self they said engine was fine , plenty life in the old dog.

Its a tough one really mate as ive seen some 58 reg audis at work with 90 k plus miles on them that look mint inside and out,yet we did an impreza 54reg blob with 40 k on it and i must say it wasnt as good as mine,and i have 78 k on mine ! It has to go down to condition,service history,how many owners,and receipts of work its had,ie cambelt etc......
I would look at each car individualy on their own merits.you could have a low milage car give you greif anyways.its also what your happy with too,my brother wouldnt touch one over 60 k yet i would look at it and make a judgement.hth

I would say its goes on national average or service intervals. If its 10k or yearly than a 6 year old car that's covered less than 60k is low mileage.

I drove a well maintains scoob with 168000 miles and it drove better then some I test drove with 60k on

My 55 plate wrx has 77k, got a fsh and a folder with every receipt and work done on it, the fella who had it before me even tracked down the garage that changed the cambelt at 50k to make sure it had been done lol

100K is high mileage on any Scoob except the STI hatch when it's about 3.5K

My last scooby had 126,000 miles on it when i sold it too my brother now its done approaching 150,000 and he beats the s#%t out of it on a daily basis. how ever we are both very strict on oil changes usuing quality oils etc persobally milage doesnt bother me at all

Mines on 159k at the mo, still going strong!
It's an 04 WRX with the prodrive upgrades, and it's still on it's original clutch!

My last classic had 130k when i bought it,but had [B]full subaru[B] service history + loads of receipts and even after i had it mapped it made 317 bhp and never used a drop of oil/water.
100k is nothing imho, if a car has been serviced and cared for regularly,better than a car with 60k and skipped service intervals.

I used to worry about milage but these days i'm more concerned about age,as i think that is a bigger problem, if a car has high miles that kind of tells you it's a good one,and 90k is nothing on a 10 year old car.

I just bought a 54plate blob ppp with 90k which i think is average, and it's as sweet as a nut, feels tighter than my mates 04 with 50 odd on the clock.

As above you just have to look at each car on it's own and not worry too much about what the clock says, i think it can be worse if a car has only been used for short blasts at the weekend and sat idle during the week, especially scoobs as the oil takes a while to get hot and get around the engine when they have been sat a while, so there can be more wear on a car thats only done 30k.

I'd be less likely to buy one over about 150 these days, but circa 100 doesn't worry me on a 10year old car it's low.

Mileage is too easy to manipulate go off condition
