Firstly, there IS no version 4 UK car. Version 4 applied to the JDM cars.
Yours is a UK car, and if you want to be pedantic, phase 1.5.
Secondly, people are right, you cannot remap, or even tweak the map of a 98 car
You need to be VERY careful: talk to a few mappers on here, and some trusted engine builders, before you take advice from folk who don't know a lot, but will happily advise you to do this, that and the other, "Because it worked on my car, and I've had no problems in the last five years,", or because, "it worked on my RS Turbo so it should be OK on a Scoob!". I have actually SEEN that comment!
THOSE people will walk away shrugging when YOUR engine lets go. And when it does, believe me, there won't be much change out of £2000 for a STANDARD rebuild.
Speak to Bob Rawle, Duncan at RaceDynamix, Jolly Green Monster, David at API, Harvey Smith, Allan Jeffery, Mark at Lateral, and DON'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE SURE.
Trust me, Scoob engines are dead easy to kill

No point going fast if you can't stop or go round corners quicker
Budget £1000 or less on this first before you even consider going under the bonnet

Depends what a full sti build is?
If its just pistons then the rods wont be sufficient for good power, you need to know what went into the engine, then the rest of the car suffers (clutch/gearbox etc).
You need to post a full list of what mods the car has if you can, anything your unsure of count as being standard, atleast then when your modding you will know what needs upgrading and what doesnt, and you wont get lots of advice on stuff thats already been done

Slightly unfair to Subaru that.
Are turbo engines of the Subaru variety dead easy to kill or is it really that so many Impreza owners seem to think they are rather more qualified to 'tune' (read muck up) their cars than your average Ford owner?

A ford engine takes half the time to build compared to an impreza lump.
The crank in the impreza is the last part you get to, so if the shells have decided to die, the entire engine has to come apart. You can't just drop the sump.
