Anyone else had "idle" issues with simtek ?
Since i had my simtek fitted on cold start up the engine revs up to 1300rpm then when a little warmer drops to 900rpm and rises and falls quite sharply, then after the car is upto temperature the erratic idle dissapears has anyone else had this with simtec ?

go to general technical and do a search, you will find a thread called lumpy idle and simtek ecu, common fault, some interesting reading as well, would also be interested to know who mapped your car, by pm if you feel more comfortable doing so.
edited to say you are certainly not alone with your issue!!!!

I'm not prepared to say who mapped my car at this stage, but i have spoken with him and the next time he's in my area he has said he will fine tune the map for this problem , i was curious to find out if other people had the same issues and can it be sorted easily.
On my way to technical archive now thanks guy's .

I had the same issue when Simtek was first installed.
Took it back for some fine tuning and that cured it, runs fine all the time now. So, as already stated, it's down to the mapper who need to spend a bit more time on the idle seting.
Defo a common problem, but easily sorted

But it is possible

My simtek was fitted and mapped by one tuner and the idle was all over the place, had it remapped by another mapper and it was still as bad. Used rev high, drop low, hunt and cut out, oh and also throw in flashing the CEL signaling DET when it was proved on 2 occassions it was'nt detting.
I would never own another simtek controlled impreza!

After having mine fitted, it would idle high and low and cut out as i approached junctions. I just stripped and cleaned icv and tps and when i put it back together i just spent a bit of time setting the tps and it was spot on and has never missed a beat since.
On cold start it idles at 1250 and as soon as it starts warming up it drops a 100rpm until it gets to 600rpm and ticks over perfect, rev counter dosent even move.
I should have cleaned the icv and tps before getting the ecu fitted, but it never crossed my mind.
I always make sure my induction kit is cleaned out before mapping now along with the icv and tps..

There isn't a table that says "target idle" but there is full control of the ABV with a 3D TPS - v- RPM table; so achieveing stable idle should not be a problem if the correct values are in the map. From all the maps I have seen - with a so called ECU problem - the main problem has been the fuel map at low rpm and load with incorrect closed loop lambda settings. This results in temporary lean running and consequent hunting/stalling.
If you want to call in at my dyno I will quite gladly fix the issues for you FOC.

The Simtek is streets ahead of the Apexi Power FC. Fact.
If you have problems with your Simtek get your mapper to fix these issues. You have paid for a remap so it should be right.
Two of my three cars have Simteks and properly mapped they are as smooth as the O/E ECU and many customers who have Simteks that have been mapped here will confirm their's drive just like the O/E ECU. The third car has a Motec M800 and I am seriously considering changing that for a Simtek which I believe is a great bit of kit and represents real value for money.
One of the problems with the cold start is that the car may already be fully warmed up if it is driven to the mapping location. The mapper therefore has to put in cold start values as a guesstimate. Sometimes they may need tweeking. Even if the car is left overnight for the mapper, he only gets one shot at getting the cold start right.
Find a competant mapper who will fettle your cold start, even if it takes a couple of tries and you need one who will give you an O/E driving smoothness. You will never look back or find a more cost effective and capable ECU.
