Roughly 700- 800.. but take it to a scoob specialist. Whatever you do dont let a back street monkey do it, because sure as **** you will be back here in a month telling us that its failed again because the heads werent skimmed or the correct thickness of gasket wasnt used...

Could be, but would you then be able to choose an appropriate head gasket so as to keep the compression ratio standard?

It is ok doing it yourself, just work slowly and label everything you take off.

So long as NO skimming needs done. If it does, would you know? And then, as above?

Yes take to a cylinder head place, or engine builder, I take mine to an engineering plaace they charge me 30 per head so 60 for an impreza. Bleed the system??? Once in and filled with oil etc the coolant filling is straight forward?

Just get them skimmed either way, better safe than sorry.

I have done 4 head gaskets and 1 full rebuild on my 450 bhp sti and its right as rain. It doesn't take a specialist to tell you to fill a coolant system up and make sure its void of air.

corrected your spelling

Often head gaskets fail as a symptom not the cause. Have your rad blown through and thoroughly cleaned internally and pressure tested or get a new rad. Rad silting up and not cooling efficiently is often a contributing factor in HG failures on older cars.

Just a thought: If you know what you are doing, how come it's needed done so many times?

First time was when I bought the car, the second time was when the bottom end went due to too much boost from broken wastegate, so the head gasket was done then, then after running it in I did not have a remap, I knew I should, but money issues, and as the pistons were 2.2 now the timing wasn't right so it went again. Now I have done it and had a remap, and no such problems since.
