the new STI is around 35'000 GBP - German spec.
In Switzerland it's around 29'000 GBP... (importing it to Germany would cost 10% tax + 19% vat)

My 42" Plasma TV was £90,000 in the year 2001 ..... it can now be purchased for £400.

Same as in cars - my Scooby cost £22,600 in 2000 .... in July this year a standard WRX could have been had for around £14,000.

I now own a new Honda Civic Type S - GT ..... it cost £18,000 - it is a far better built car than the STi Impreza I drove in May this year. The STi was £27,000.

I desperately wanted a Subaru Impreza again, but the costs of ownership, cheap build and the fact that it is past its time put me off.

So, prices 'starting' at £33,000 is just plain madness .... and only the mad will pay anything like that for something which has had its day.

Got to agree with PSLEWIS

I do think subaru need some major change in pricing the day when there AWD was ahead of other car makers has now passed and the brand now is getting a following who could never dream of owning a WRX STI once over.

That being said i still have my Scoob but now also have a Alfa GT JTD for the longer runs
but this new STI to me looks excellent so sent for the details price tag is a joke.

Few years from now will not be suprised to have bought one though.

What will a STi be worth after 12 months? £12,000?

After 2 years - £8,000?

After 3 years - £6500?

Then losing £1,000 a year ...

No-one wants an old car which costs £450 a year to tax ....

Sorry to pop your bubble, but it doesn't quite work like that for these Limited Appeal cars.

Subaru could not sell the HatchBack WRX - WRX S - STi's - 330S ... despite many attempts to do so .... they just couldn't sell them.

Why would the secondhand market love them any more than when they were new? They won't.

In fact, the values fall faster than a ****** knickers on payday due to the bigger and bigger road tax % (as a % of the cars value) ..... £450 a year on a 3 year old Impreza 330S with a value of £8000 is a disaster for its resale.

Nah .... it's all over .... like some old granny still trying to do the twist - it's just sad now.

Sorry Subaru - you have priced yourself out of the UK - and built a car with a disgracefully cheap, tacky, interior.

A full Prodrived classic would have cost in the region of 32k back in 99/00, so not too bad for the STI, but it is stupidly expensive, though some of that is down to the fact the yen v pound is very bad just now

Ouch.... with the Evo IX's increasing in value recently i think there will be a lot of very un-happy Evo X owners now.

And we say the Impreza Hatch dropped in value badly!!!

I test drove one yesterday, it is very nice but not worth that sort of money. The salesman said they were aiming at the BMW market hence no large rear wing!!

It was, but times have moved on.

The Classic was a car of its time - made for its time - Engineered to perfection .... it didn't have tacky controls! It had good old fashioned sliders .... the new STi has Amstrad Hi-Fi quality controls - which is unforgivable in this day and age.

The new STi is so much behind the curve it is truly embarrassing.

I had a Type R 3 years paid 16k new sold it for 11500 3 years later.

I had an Audi A4 sline 2.0TDI bought for 24k sold 3 years later for 12k <<< pants

Im currently looking at a MERC E Class 40k new 2nd hand 1 year old 29k

also an Audi A6 3.0 TDI Le Mans 38k new second hand 24k now thats depreciaition.

Scoobys do depreciate but if u hunt about youll get ok prices, but if you cant afford to run a scoob then you buy a civic and go shopping in it.

I have many a car Type Rs, VXRs GOLFs etc, and i have to admit even though its a hatch i get more Nods and waves from young kids etc, than any other motor ive been in.

I think even though there pants inside they earn respect and as what car said its in the TOP brands of prestige motors to own along with porsche etc, ok a Porker is nicer but its nice to be up there.

I love mine it eays fuel but so what its best thing ive driven for over 15 years, and its fast, and after going to diesal and back again its always great to have the Vroom vroom

Have to agree 33k for a Impreza is stupid money, Bet its more once you gone through the options list. The reason Subaru had a big following was that they could sell a car that was as quick/quicker then a BMW M3 for half the price, Now there trying to compete against BMW and prices are now showing.

Prices of cars are going up stupidly cos of the exchange rate, then there will be the VAT increase. A new M3 with DCT and competition pack comes it in at nearly £60k!!! Subaru are hardly competing with that.

And honestly m8 if you think a 140 BHP 2,2 civic is the daddy then my oh my even chipped its not a patch on a standard wrx never mind an STI. with a remap from Angel DTUK or Celtic youll be lucky to hit 180.
