Default Breaking a 2005 Forester STi... or not?

Hi there,

i'm thinking of breaking my 2005 Forester STi as i just had a light rear accident with it!

do someone know how much can it worth in parts?

engine, box, brakes, interior and anything ?

i'm still not sure if that's the best idea to break it or not! IF someone can help me and tell me how much it can worth in parts or how much it can worth as it stand now? broken rear bumper, broken front bumper but actually that's it except that the shell of the car in the boot have been waved where there is the spare wheel!

any idea?

sorry my english isnt perfect

thanks

Your English is pretty good, it sounds like there are creases (waves) in the boot/spare wheel area.

Usually these can be pulled out - removed on a jig - a frame that they attach the car to and winch/push/pull out the damage and align the shell back withing the manufactures specification - this can be done easily (usually) with the car in one piece, no removal of interior, engine, etc as long as the damage is not too bad.

If the bumpers are damaged and reed replacing then there is a cost to those, i guess budget 1200-1500 euros to supply, fit and paint them.

Jigging i guess another 700.00 or so euros - this is really about how long it takes to do this, remove the old bumpers and anything else then jig time.

It depends how much the car is worth/worth to you.

Stripping it can be time consuming, amusing all is good/well will the parts and time spent add up to more that the repairs/value of the car once repaired.

I hope this makes so sense.

Thank you for your answer mate!

the problem is that i actually dont know where i can get STi genuine bumpers for a FSTi and there is some need of cash if you would like to repair a car damaged like you said
Else you need to add some timescale for the car to be painted / repaired by the bodyshop i'm not sure all the wait, cash spending, will help to make some money quickly and i'm not sure if the value of the car after repairing it will be the same!

Actually, i would like to make at least 8,5k for all the parts if the car is going to be broken.

Do you think there is anyway to get that kind of money with a Forester Sti broken for parts?

A forester STi like mine worth atm around 11 to 12k depend on the condition!
mine is in good condition except the rear damage and the engine is mint, body is mint, chassis too and gearbox good as well! it just need a rear diff i believe to be perfect.

so if i take all the things needed to do, i maybe better to break it!

but the best is to get some advise there so if anyone have some ideas, it would be perfect

thanks

As per PM, you can buy the bumpers from www.japanparts.com
If you decide to break I am interested in the interior and wheels (and maybe some other parts). Can you e-mail me some photos of the whole car after the accident?
Cheers.

I have a Forester STI also (as does fpan!). I think the problem you will have in stripping it is there is a VERY small market for forester sti specific parts compared to impreza's. Engine and gearbox you will have no problem, particularly gearbox as the forester sti has the longer ratios on the 6 speed box and these are very sought after for high powered cars. After that I think you will be left with a partially dismantled car where the bits sell in dribs and drabs if at all.
Repair it or sell it on as a project.

I'll be happy to sell it as a project but will need at least some cash for it.. i bought it two years ago for over 15k and now i really need some money back

i think you're right but the engine, box, transmission, chassis parts, interior, brakes can be sold for an impreza as well and the european market is a bit higher in price terms as UK

I need bonnet, boot, rear passenger quarter panel, front bumper, passenger head light and passenger rear light,

Head over to www.subaruforester.org and check out the European section...will be plenty of takers over there for FSTI parts.

First i guess you need to work out which parts are fsti specific and which generic. Don over at subaruforester.org (and here) is pretty good at navigating the parts db.
My guess is that the bonnet and boot are generic forester xt parts. Headlight will be ok as long as its just the glass you need to replace, otherwise special order, i think fpan/fivos just replaced an identical light.

Good luck anyhow, btw do you have anymore videos of the forester in action?
Also, what spec are you running the engine now?

Only the bumpers and lights are FSTi specific, anything else same as a XT.
Was it wet when it happened?

Hey,
Really sorry I haven't replied before now!
I kinda excepted that she ain't going to be pretty again any time soon!
I have been having the craic in her as she is!!
A couple of trackdays and a drift day!
But now she is due her next NCT (National Car Test) as as MOT
So kinda need lights and stuff, Ha ha ha
The search for parts is back on!
She is flying though, not a bother on her otherwise!
Running 465/460 built by Ali Burrows (NI) and mapped by JGM still on an sti8 top mount!
Any other Foz's for breaking on here that you guys know about??

Dan
