Default Mini Cooper S

Bit play with one last night, straight run on a quiet dual carrigeway, I honestly thought the straight line speed on one of these would be more impressive than it actually was as I easily trounced him

As an observation I would say they're nowhere near as quick as a Clio 172/182 as they really can give a Scoob a run for it's money.

because they are both superminis/hot hatches and in the same class. just because theres a power difference, doesnt mean they have to be classed differently.

I dont get it? What power are you running?

My Focus is running 270bhp and blows away Clios and Minis (inc the works one) for fun.

The cooper s has 161bhp and reaches 60 in about 7.5.......No contest
& 197 is obviously 197 bhp and reaches 60 in about 6.8 is quite abit quciker thatn the mini but still should be no contest.

Do the current hot Focuses (RS ?) run 270bhp as std ? Had thought they were originally about 220 bhp.

Isn't there exhaust and remap routes for the Cooper S. I've seen a few with aftermarket exhausts. New ones are turbos as opposed to supercharged I think?

What year was the Mini CS ?
The R56 (current shape) Cooper S went over to a turbo powered lump, which from driving experience is TOTALLY different to the old supercharged version.

Fantastic little car, and for interior spec etc I would choose the Mini.
Love driving them. Missus works for Mini

THe JCW is said to be a bit of a beast

Yep the new ones a turbo with an extra 10 or so bhp, and to be fair it is nicer to drive.
Although i hate French cars (and wouldnt buy either) i would have the Clio if i had to choose.

Yeah sure will be the new one.
Amazing little car round the roads around Snowdonia, the day after she got her mittens on it.
2 days and 750 miles later, I was impressed.

Was a little worried when the gear level sleeve came off in my hands while accelerating hard

They can be fun little cars but they shouldn't race scoobs. I had a play with one once and it was a bit of a mismatch.

Saying that, you can have fun in a JCW GP and they are great looking little cars. I had a go in one once and was impressed for what it is.

Yup a "joint venture" twin scoll turbo etc
Apparently good for quite a large hike in power too.

The JCW GP is indeed one heck of a tool. Evil looking thing too
As for them racing scoobies, fair comment, but on the move they aint far off the pace of a factory car.

That's the key, easy to drive.

I took a cooper s around croft as a warm up/training car and could concentrate on learning the circuit as driving was a no brainer.

The latest Cooper S is 175BHP in standard form 0 to 60 7.1 secs (140 mph)

Coopers S works is 210BHP 0 to 60 in 6.4 secs (143 mph)

My Missus loves them, wants to get rid of the Scoob and get one!

Do Scoob drivers really drive around waiting for other cars to "have a go"? The roads are getting more like the wild west every day.
