Default 620 BHP 530 FT.LBS : CONGRATULATIONS

Mike Tuckwood of Scoobymania with his MY 2001 at 2.5 litre 1.5 bar, V-Power , 620 bhp and 530 ft.lbs.

The engine has internals to run at far higher boost and that will be done after some miles are put on the existing engine

Am i correct in thinking that some of the Blueprinted Type 25 engines can take 1000BHP? I thought i read this somewhere...

Yes I read this in a Cosworth brochure I picked up at Lichfield imports.

The engine might, hate to think about the rest of the drivetrain...

Mike has done several "big power" 2.5s now. The first one went to Malta and that was 554bhp and 530 ft/lbs so power is rising and they have all been reliable to date. Mike's own engine now 620/530 has been over 500 bhp for the last 18 months.

I saw this car a few weeks ago, whilst I was having my AP's fitted (most excellently I might add..!) and it wasn't quite finished, but the attention to detail is tremendous. The fuelling is a work of art in itself with the biggest fuel pump I've ever seen. I thought it was an LPG cylinder in the boot..!

Well deserved congrats IMO..

Cheers Harvey much appreciated. The 'Malta car' was actually the 3rd one, but it was the most challenging due to its requirement to run on a diet of 95 Ron only.

We have actually ran this car (STi7) at ~2 bar on the road for some time, but work load has always put the 'dyno testing' part on the back burner.

On the lowest boost setting we could run (1.2 bar iirc) it made ~ 547bhp Unfortunatly we ran out of time (we were also running several customer cars on the dyno that day too) so 1.5 bar and 620bhp is all we got

Thanks for the compliments guys

Personally I think the best way to prove a 'road car package' is on the road. The best way to prove a 'drag car package' is on the drag strip. etc.

'This' car is an every day driver, and as such we have no intention of taking it to a drag strip. 99% of our customers require road cars. Sorry if that's a little boring

You don't do a road car package that can be run on the track at weekends then ?
530lb ft of torque at 1.5bar on vpower ? Thats impressive.

Was it you guys that done the engine for Scott Arrundale in Scotland last year ?

I'm a bit confused about this

Thumbs up

No, we didn't build Scott Arrundel's engine, what made you think we did? Is he getting impressive numbers as well?
I believe it was Hyper.. something in Scotland?

Yes Andy, of course our "road" package cars can be ran on track at weekends, in the week as well if the fancy really takes you.

Cam profiles, timing and turbine choice, as I'm sure you know, can reap great rewards. I will have to check the graphs, but I believe the peak torque of 530lbft was made at closer to 1.6 bar.

If there are elements of what we've done that you're "confused" about, please feel free to give us a call, I even have an extra phone point in our (somewhat crowded) bedroom now.

Sounds stupid, but how does it drive?

Is the delivery smooth or does it crash-in with an a huge bang?

Hi Graham

It can be either

At 1.5 bar it is actually very progressive, part throttle response is stunning for a large turbo and you can easily despatch pretty much anything with just small throttle openings. Stamp on it and everything gets a little more serious

Rather than just bolting on "big things" to get "big power" we have spent alot of time on tuning the car to give a balanced and reliable output (if a little on the high side!) by using custom cam profiles, cam timing, turbine wheels and turbine housings. So far so good

Nice, however those sort of figs are the norm (or should be) for a built 2.5 at that level, it was nearly three years ago I sat in front of a 2 litre using oxygenated fuel (before anyone jumps) and pulled it up to 709 bhp and 500 ft lbs on a Daventry engine dyno both recorded at 7000 rpm.

Graham it will have a big ol turbo on it and response will be accordingly typical I suspect. Lots of air going in at only 1.5 bar. Boost doesn't equal power though, depends where on the efficiency curves things are sat.

Good result Mike, I too would be interested in seeing it on the strip, bring it over to Stratford Raceway on the 15th there's a few Scoobs going and it will be a good day. All I do is take the spare wheel out of mine and that aside it runs exactly as I drive it normally.

cheers

bob

Thanks Bob

Drag racing is not our thing, maybe one day ?

"709 bhp and 500 ft lbs on a Daventry engine dyno both recorded at 7000 rpm."

Are you sure about that? Defying the laws of physics... now that would be very impressive...

Come on Mike, you might enjoy it !

It took Bob a while to settle into it but now he's getting pretty damn good ! I'm sure Bob will admit to learning a thing or 2 about making the car quicker from the feedback from detailed timing slips.

Racing improves the breed and all that

Great figures

I run a Bob Rawle mapped Bugeye as a daily driver with a few mods and it scares me at times !!

I'm not sure that the description "road car package" is apt LOL
