hi evrybody, i don't want to jump the gun, but i aint got time on my side and need urgent assistance.

i can get my hands on a tdo5 big 16g turbo, at a cracking price, but like i said time isn't on my side and the tech site won't let me post yet being almost virgin status newbie!!

i have a 95 import wagon, gf8c58d, currently running a angled entry tdo4, but the tdo5 i'm offerd is straight entry, in other words when uninstalled you can look directly at the compressor wheel rather than having an extra 90degree of alloy housing that would obstruct this, that bends upwards to meet the hosework.

my questions are, should i fit this turbo?, will my stock ecu learn it or will i need remap and if so how much is likely to cost?, and because of the difference in entry type is this simply a case of rerouting and adding hoses to compensate or an engineering job of complexity to much to be bothered with?

sorry again for throwing this in the wrong forum, but i desperately want to mod my wagon sensibly and properly but like i said i'm up against it timewise, so c'mon petrolheads, don't let me down!

Hello Mate
I am no mechanic but here is what I have learnt from my own experience.
I recently fitted a TD05 to my 1995 Wagon that had a TD04.
You will need a new ecu, there are several options but I am running one from a 1995 UK saloon (W5 I think ), I think as long as it is from a car with a TD05 and the 90 degree entry you will be ok (i.e early models pre 1997).
With the turbo you will also need the banjo's for the oil and water pipes, your TD04 ones are a different size so will be of no use, I recommend you try to get these with the turbo as I imagine they will be more difficult to source individually.
Not 100% sure on this one but in terms of the 90 degree bend I think you can get a 90 degree Samco pipe as otherwise your whole induction route will be different.

A FE TD05 is nice but its not for you; you need an unmodified ninety degree entry part. With regards to the ECU, no you cant use your existing one: use a Z4 (as fitted to MY95 & MY96 JDM Saloons), thisll give you 260PS and will give you a spec similar to the GF8 STI V2.

this thing is supposed to come with all relevant banjo's and the gasket for each end too so no worries there, well not many eh!!!

so did you come across the same issue, i.e your original td04 was angled and your new td05 was straight, and a "samco" elbow was the answer to make the two meet the wagons original intake pipework?
and how much was a replacement ecu, cos the performance ones such as the apexi plus a remap won't leave me any change out a grand i'm told which to be honest is ridiculous!

i ain't made of money regardless of how much i want the car good, right, and reliable!

An A'PEXi PowerFC will cost about £750 fitted and mapped (youre not comparing like-with-like here though as a PFC will enable endlesss adjustment to be made and is good for well over 300BHP with a modest engine spec) but a Z4 should cost about £65 now, perhaps a little more from someone who paid stronger money and doesnt realise how their values have dropped.

Im about to do the same to my 'Wagon, but I will be fitting an original TD05 (with a Z4).

on what you've said, am i much better off leaving the turbo alone, certainly for now, and starting with the bolt on stuff such as decat pipework and better air flow, which i'm led to believe my stock ecu will cope with, will it not?

if this is the case, which stuff do you reccommend, i'm sick of different scooby specialist slating each others stock, because one goes 2.5inch at this point, and mine is 3 inch all the way, yours will run lean, my dad can't drive and my sister stinks!!!

ps - i'm sure i read a thread last night that listed all the ps figures for wagons with the b,c, and d noting, and isn't a gf8c58d around 260ps anyway, all be it when running on jap rocket fuel and not uk witches pee?

A C-Series GF8 produces 220PS. The equivalent GC8 produced 260PS using the TD05 and Z4 ECU.

Theres no reason not to swap the turbo and thats a good time to fit a de-cat downpipe too. I believe that a Z4 ECU can easily cope with this and youll probably see in the region of 275PS. You really would be better off finding a standard TD05 turbo though; the FE ones have been modified to fit later face-lifted cars. This really is all simple bolt on stuff; dont dick about witht he factory inlet tract though, all youll do is make more noise.....

Z4 is the model; Im not sure of the full part number. Theyre fitted to C-Series GC8 Saloons (MY95 & MY96).
