Does anyone know what a '1604' code means on a fixed penality notice.

Trying to get some insurance but not sure how this tallies with the XX?? codes.

Not had my lisence back from the cop shop yet so can't check that either.

That sounds like a code for the offence just used for effectively admin purposes by whatever force have issued you the ticket ...... I presume it didn't have a brief explanation next to it ?

I suggest you pop in your local police station or give them a ring on a local station number; numbers are usually in the yellow pages or Thompson local directories.

If you are unsure what the ticket was issued for I am sure they will be able to look the code up and tell you.

i was doing 91mph on dual carriageway (paced for 0.5 miles according to the notice).

In that case tell your insurance company you are being done for speeding .... in a [whatever] limit.

Speeding offences usually get entered on your licence according to the limit you have exceeded; i.e. SP30 is a speeding offence in a 30mph limit, SP50 in a 50 limit and so on.

As I mentioned earlier the code on the FPN is merely an admin code and not what the insurance company will want to know.

on a dual carriageway you should get a SP30 thats what got anyway for doing 93 but that was 6 years ago so might have changed now.

nah it doesn't, SP30 is nothing and neither is much else, i picked up a CD10 last year for undue care and attention and my insurance went up £20 and that was all.

Some insurers over look one or two SP30's but mine wanted another £150 for one SP30 I changed insurers...

sp30 is normaly a ban, & sp30 mean you did over 30mph over the speed limit + your insurence goes up quite a lot. i got court doing 78mph in a 40 zone. i got band for 6 month, + a fine, the fine goes on what your wage packet says, the more you get the higher the fine, sorry bud
the good news, ok. with an sp30 you dont normaly get any points, your band. ive still got no points but have an sp30 instead.

you will only get a ban with an sp30 if doing silly speeds, 40mph in a 30mph limit will give you an sp30 but not a ban, few points tho, usually if doing more than 30mph over the posted limit you are likely to get a ban, i.e 100 on the motorway, 60 in a 30 etc. i got done doing 98 on motorway and got a summons for it. ended up with 4points and a fine. sp50 on licence. insurance went up by about 40quid. dual carrigeways are usually 60 (national limit) unless otherwise signposted.

What a load of bollocks. A sp30 penalty has nothing to do with how fast you were going over the specified limit. It is a penalty code for Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road. You can get a fixed penalty of 3 points going upto 6 points for higher speeds.

You were banned for being caught nearly doubling the speed limit. Because your ban was longer than 56 days, your licence is wiped clean- hence thats why you personally didnt receive any points.

Scoobedoo you will most likley receive CofP which is 3 points £ 60 fine, if you decide to accept it.

Hmmmm, I passed a mobile speed camera today doing ~70mph on a dual-carriageway. I hit the brakes so may have got down to 65-66mph in time but it's going to be a anxious 15 days to see if I get the brown envelope through the door.

WTF were they doing out on New Year's Day for ***** sake!!! Don't these people have lives, or do they live for raising revenue???

the police man actually told me that these 3 points shouldn't effect my insurance and to be careful as they always come in threes.

this is what i love about most of these sites. most of you are a bunch of *****. your forgetting. ive not long had an sp30, and this is what thay do. i was doing 78 in a 40 zone, got a ban & 300 quid fine. + i was told there clamping down on speeding. & you will get 3 point if your doing 10 percent over the limit....
this was less than a year ago. and its not the fact of having an sp30 on ya licence, its the fact you have a ban, may it be just a couple of weeks ect, tell ya insurence that.....
i get pist off when persons try to undermime me. i was got by a little white van, hidden in some trees.

don't understand why he's undermining you.. the post is accurate as to what the law is. An sp30 is just exceeding the pre-described speed limit on a public road.. nothing to do with speed. A ban on your licence is a lot worse than having 3 points.

thats the point what i was on about, i now what ya on about with the undermimeing part..sorry. but this is what i was on about, there clamping down on speed. and most of the time there giving a sp30 + a ban in sted of points. this is what i got and a couple of my mate got to. but the way i was told by the big wig, the sp goes to how much you go over the speed limit. but as the other guy said, most insurers arnt bothed about a meir sp30, but as soon as you say you were band. slap, extra on ya insurence.

you can get away with loads if you just deny it, i got stopped for doing over 80mph in a 40 by a traffic car and i denied i was doing it and said to them take me to court then, they just gave me a telling off and sent me on my way, admit it and their laughing.

@daveukbluemica wow an xtra £20 for a cd10..that's good going mate...ive just been caught for the same thing driving my work van but I've got a few mths yet before I renew my insurance and hopefully it will be fine...who are you insured with bud ?

I know lol but I'm about to receive points on my license for the first time in years and just wanted to read up people's experiences with them

Never experienced getting points on my licence but I imagine it's pretty stomache clenching
I've heard there's a course which gets offered instead of points on your licencse?? But I guess that's at there discretion

I know mate has really annoyed me...their is a course you can do but it's down to the officer whether or not you get invited onto 1..fingers crossed as I don't want 3 points on me license
