Sharp knock through depressed clutch pedal on ignition

My UK Impreza Turbo (4k miles) seems to have developed this sort of knock vibration through the depressed clutch pedal on ignition.
Also the transmission does not seem very smooth with some vibration through pedal when in gear. ( This is not the transmission shunt between 1st and 2nd gears when cold which I know is a usual scooby feature.)
Any ideas?
