Question

Looking to buy a '93 - '96 WRX soon. Anybody have links to stats of all the different engine types/models and perhaps a list of common faults.

Thanks.

From my own rather unpleasant personal experience, avoid the 93-94 WRX wagons. They have smaller turbos (TD04s) and are down on power from the saloons. (220ps as opposed to 240ps for the saloon)

The SIDC FAQ is a good start point.

i had a wrx93 4 four door over two years, and aside from servicing and the usual outgoings only had to pay for a new clutch and a syncro for second gear. These items should be relatively cheap to replace unless you get ripped off by a well know company, which happened to me.

The wrx i had was a 240 bhp model (later ones had 260 and 280,and dont be misled by bulls*it sales patter about theirs being 280 unless they have proof) and was rolling roaded at 245 with a scorpion exhaust, cone air filter and a dump valve. Exterior wise they look a tired in standard trim, ie, have non colour coded trims, the wheels will be rubbish 15" and will only have a pancake spoiler. But many have been upgraded already so that saves a bit as second hand they will not be worth much more.

As always get the car thoroughy checked out by a proper engineer, saved me buying a twisted one.

Agree with above. Also the MY95 WRX comes with 260 PS as std (remember thats rated on 100RON fuel), colour coded mirrors, doorhandles etc, 16" wheel as std.

I am currently trying to sell my 1995 WRX if you are interested. It was 260bhp standard model, but has been modified, so unknown bhp now. Mail me for details at mrobinson2@kpmg.co.im
