Default Maybe coolant issues?

Hi iv recently fitted a water temp gauge on my 03 jdm sti and now in traffic I'm watching the temp a lot and have noticed after driving and come to a stop my coolant goes up a a degree a second so it be around 88 when I stop and climbs quickly to 96 when the fan kicks in and it cools back down to 88 is this normal , it just seems like the fan kicks in a lot if I'm in slow traffic

This time of year it doesn't take long especially after driving and in stop start traffic.

Sounds the norm , same as my jdm wagon , put the ac on if you want to cool it down it has a big impact on temp reduction

Exactly what I do, my PSi3 shows coolant temp, and with air con on, it takes much longer for it to get to 96 when my fans kick in. Sound advice.

you could always put a power supply into the ac fan , i’ve done that on cars in the past

Would there be a way that I could get it to turn it on by just pressing the ac button

possibly but i don’t think it will turn on with ac system not working , probably safer putting in a fused switch as it draws quite a lot of power

If the JDM model is the same as the UK one, then both radiator fans are controlled by the ECU and will come on depending upon what signal the A/C control module is also sending to the ECU.

It is possible that if enough of your A/C system wiring is intact , then simply pressing the A/C switch may be sufficient to give the right signal to the ECU.

I would have thought the AC would increase temps due to heat soak from AC rad that sits in front of the coolant rad. I know an extra fan kicks in but I doubt if this cools the car better. More load on engine too for the ac pump. Maybe I am wrong.
