Weight is a concern as I have to carry stuff from shed to car (and I'm a weakling )

Some of the ones I've seen are over 40Kg's

In that case you shouldn't rule out aluminium ones - they'll be about 40% lighter.

Arcan 2-tonne Aluminium low entry jacks are usually in Costco for ~£100. They weight 25kgs.

I have a similar alu one

The RAM went after a few uses. The seller sent me another RAM which worked for a little while and then intermittently worked.

Has just packed up totally which is why I'm the look out and reluctant to go that same route

Maybe look for a different brand or reseller? I've had mine 5+ years without issue.

If you are lifting one in and out of a car (basically a portable one) then you'd be made not to get an aluminium one.

The RAM has nothing to do with the material used in construction - it could just as easily fail in an all steel jack.

I've got the Arcan one from Costco that was mentioned above, had it about a year and no issues so far. I'ts still pretty heavy even though it's an aluminum one, not sure i'd want one that was any heavier.

I just wanted a cheap and cheerful for occasional use. Opted for a Silverline compact version, lifts the car at ease (2ton rated) get under the trim without hassle, however the car is not all that low

£25 delivered - cant go wrong... oh yeah, it probably only weighs around 20 kg.
