They are mostly designed to bring in more air. If you just change the filter out you wont notice much difference since you'll be pulling in slightly more air with the same amount of fuel so you'll be running a little lean. Get it mapped afterwards and there will be a difference.

Running the same. As said you won't notice any thing. To be honest even with a map only with give you small improvement nothing u'd notice.

I personally like the noise (induction kit obviously , rather than just a replacement filter)
do they make a difference in performance ? I've no idea. People say the air box does a fine job but then people modify all types of parts and the same could be said as in "Subaru know what they're doing" but what about ringland failure
I have plenty of cold air feeding my intake and it's running fine after a remap , feels great and sounds great. Maybe a slight improvement in performance.

Personally, I think unless done in conjunction with other mods and a remap its useless for performance. The only benefit is the noise, which is pretty awesome.
