Outback recall
Just recieved a notification from Subaru that my Outback requires a recall
Ok fair enough there on the ball
But ....
Mines an 03 model ... and the recall is for a brake defect
It goes onto say it may be unsafe to drive ...
Its been ok for the last 15 years, of which 12 have been subjected to MOT
testing lol.
And just to P me off, the local dealer (7 miles away closed last month)
its now a 50 mile round trip to get it checked
Just checked only 400 odd H6's left on the road!

MOT test is the bare minimum standard. It only tests what can be seen without tampering and only declares it fit for use on that day of testing (I.e you cannot fail a car because you think a caliper "may" drop off in 11months time, but you can advise if there is a valid reason to suspect that it may fall off) So yeah it passes, like most stuff will.
However there maybe a component defect which cannot be seen or checked without some sort of disassembly...plastic under trays being one. Something a heavily rusted pipe could hide behind waiting to pop on your next emergency stop (and yes I've had that happen).
So yeah, don't ignore it. And don't soley rely on MOTs to dictate a car's condition.
