Default 17"s or 18"s ROAD WHEELS

Hi Folks,

I appreciated that 18" wheels seems to be the norm now.

But is it not generally accepted that 17" is better for a road car.

Being lighter and more sidewall on the tyre?

17s are better for UK roads, but look small on a newage,
you are correct in that there is less tramlining and comfort gains from the 17s.
imo

Yeah, same as I prefer the bigger rear arb on mine, but most find that too tail happy.

Most classics came with 15's or 16's (from 98), so a step up to 17's was good, and made the tyres cheaper, since, apparently more cars used 17's.
As an example, it was cheaper for me to buy a set of 17's off a newage WRX and four 215/40 x17's for them, than to buy the same make four tyres in a 16".
I sold my 16's for a song to someone who had 15's.

AFAIK, wasn't the P1 the only classic that came with an option of 18's?

At the time, Prodrive advised against going bigger on classics, but the P1 suspension was different.

TBH, there's more bang for buck in a classic on 17's than going to 18's. Suspension, brakes if not already done, for a start...
