Default 2.1 / 2.35 engine build recommendations

Just getting through some quotes from engine builders. Clearly important I get it right and have spoken to one or two really good and helpfull guys.

Without mentioning who I have spoke to. Who would you recommend for a build from start to finish.

Anywhere - Yorkshire, midlands, northern England please

Thanks.

Alyn @ ASperformance in birtley
Andy Kindon chester le street

I've used both, both extremely competent, both very easy on the wallet.

ASperformance carry out all their own machine work and assembly, carry all necessary build parts on the shelf.

I used Engine Tuner to build both my 2.3 and 2.1.

I liked the service I got from finch motorsport.
He rebuilt my 2.1 after I broke it, with part new parts and reused the piston and rods as they were still in good order.
Basically, he didn't at any point try to make extra money out of me even though he could have easily done, but rather quoted a fair price and stuck to it. Also recommended useful upgrades at the same time, and dissuaded me from others. Comes across very honest and knowledgeable.

I'm not suggesting for a minute that you will not get similar treatment from others, but just highlighting that I had a great experience with Paul.

Another one here for Andy Kindon as he built a friends 2.1. Very easy to deal with and good knowledge. Also have a friend running a Williams Motorsport 2.1 in his blob which again was a good price and got good advice. Both have been running for 2 years at 420+

"Can't trust them"?

I take it that's a typo

Another vote for Richard Henry, who were to busy to do my build. So I had a 2.35 built by Andy @WMS.

Another satisfied Paul Finch customer. Really cant fault the experience, completed the build on time and to budget, after service is first class and the advice is free.
Seriously strong engine too

WMS, his prices can't be touched imo. That doesn't mean it's cheap for a reason but has low bills to pay compared.
You will see when you get your quotes.

You could pay over the odds in price and have a failure, it's the correct builder(s) you need.

A failure could occur irrespective who's built it, I know where rob will go. He won't pay over the odds and I'm confident he will get a great engine

I think most builders should be able to put together a decent strong engine... it's really not that difficult.

It's everything else that goes along with it that can cause it to fail... that's anything from an injector to fuel pump and mapping... it's who does all of that one needs to be really concerned with.... so for that reason alone unless you're a really competent DIYer I'd say go with a "one stop shop" bitting and bobbing, here and there leads to too many fingers in the pie... which will only increase the possibilities for things to go wrong... and no one outfit being accountable.

Thank you everyone for your input.

I am DIYing as much as possible. I went to Scooby Clinic but the garage put me off a little, helpful guys but their quotes were somewhat vague, (give us £25k and your car and it will be 650bhp) and there were a lot of cars in bits with not a lot going on.

I have always valued the work RHM have done for me, however they are very busy at the moment and I am working to a tight time scale. Their race cars highlight their build quality.

I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anyone from my list and hear other people's opinions

Thank you again

What about TDR in Warwick, very good reputation and he does the mapping in house as well, may be a bit too far south though.

Until you sit down and spec exactly whats what you won't know no mater which builder you use, make sure you know exactly what you are and arn't getting.

As far as not alot going on it will depend when you went, they sometimes have staff out at events supporting dimitrij, bucky, vaughan, colin (Search The Hebridean on FB) etc. so workshop is quiet, sometimes its busy with cars going in and out all over the place.
