Default Thoughts on 04 legacy wr limited wagon

Hi there, I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on an 04 legacy wr limited wagon.
I know trooper has one on here.
I'm slightly worried about the vf38 on 90k as have read a few threads about them giving up.
car was imported in 2016 and remapped straight away by David Henry to around 310 the owner said.
also as I've had an 05 wrx wagon and wanted to know if it's any more comfortable to drive? Is the gearbox the same as UK wrx?
are the seats the same as UK wrx but just covered differently.
I've since bought a 2001 auto 530I saloon which is extremely easy and relaxing to drive.
I'm after in between my old wrx wagon and the bmw.
Anyone had both.
at the moment I'm also thinking that the legacy isn't really worth the sum of its parts if you know what I mean! 5500£.
but if I want a fast 4x4 wagon there's not much choice in that range.
Cheers. Justin

That is pretty cheap to be honest and 310 is a sensible BHP to have. Like any other Subaru unless you go nuts and not uprate corresponding parts to match the performance increase it will break.

Mine was imported in May 2016 by Prodrift UK, who imported this one?

Is it an Auto or Manuel?

There are plenty of German barges around for £5500, though the mileage may be considerable but do you want to be a sheep? The repair costs on a Euro box can be prohibitive as DSG/Auto stuff, diesel engine failing parts.

But I am biased

It's a manual.
imported by torque gt I think.
they imported it specially for the guy who chose it.
he had it remapped straight away.
how many miles has yours done.?
he wanted 6350 buts it's been up a while and I've got him down.
my 82k 530I cost 1500 quid and is pretty much mint condition for age.
it's just that an extra 4k for the legacy seems too much for the car if you know what I mean.
but they do look lovely.
are the gearbox and running gear the same as UK legacy/impreza?

One of these is on the shortlist for my next car, and £5500 sounds like a bargain, depending on condition. But if it's spent most of its life in Japan I'd expect it not to have any rust issues...

Mine was imported with 112k kms about 70k miles, I have done less than 6000 miles since.
TGT have one for £8.5 k, £1k more than this time last year. Mine as absolutely zero rust.

This is my second WR Leggy for a reason
It is a Gentlemans Express and the comfort is great with the electric seat adjustment. The twinscroll power delivery is a surprise in a big lump and can surprise some big stuff. Maaooosive boot and plenty of room in the rear unless you are built like Vader.

Were are you located?

Yes I did by David Hendry and very pleased I am with 319/327
Really good on a long run but juicy if you get excited. It is a shame you are not closer you could of had a whizz.

Are you on www.uklegacy.com ?

well i now own said car.
absolutly lovely. its had a bump on corner of nearside bumper ,so could do with a touch up/respray. it was previous owner reverse parking.surprised these dont have parking sensors?
i was slightly worried i wouldnt like it in wr blue, but it looks stunning.
power is pretty much on tap and feels very light and smaller than it looks/feels inside.
suspension is harder than the uk wrx wagon i had.
its got new uniroyal rainsports on it and seem to give quite a bit of road noise but grip well.
ill get some pics up soon.
also the previous owner hac ked the middle vents to put a tablet in ther which ive removed as it was bricked.
also need to sort out the stereo which is going to cost a pretty penny for the double din fascia.

Looks good. There are plenty of double DIN stereos around and not too expensive.

Yes,he did a very good job of the photos!
he'd spent all day cleaning it.
I tried talking photos of the bmw before I sold it and just couldn't get the right look.
difficult.

That blue always has excellent wetness, if you know what I mean! How do you like the twinscroll after the wagon?

Legacy just feels really light and nimble compared to wrx wagon. Strange.
I'd had my td04 hybridized on the wagon and came in a bit later.
twinscroll is just there right away. Definitely easier to drive.
it's been remapped so don't know what it was like standard.
fujibitso backboxes but it's really quite quiet.
keeps the missus happy as she hated going out in the wagon. Bless her.
I'm still unsure what turbo is on the manual version of these.
a guy on UK legacy forum removed his turbo from the auto version of this and it was vf38 so mine should be td04.
but trooper on here says manual version is vf38.
conflicts across the Internet! Ha ha.
I'll have to try and look. Cheers

Well done buddy.

I have a set of double DIN heater controls (black single zone AC) and the antennae adaptor to fit UK radio's, I do not have the fascia adaptor. I can drop you a PM of what I have

Good to see some other Leggy WR owners

I am about to fit a set of NUR Spec back boxes and a new stainless Y Pipe, then a sport cat followed by a remap.

The Y Pipe is preventative to be honest. The pipes should be here next week but I get stuff via one of the guys on UK Legacy who bids on Japanese auctions for me, so far I have an HKS Sport cat and the back boxes.

Happy days!

^i bought a grille for my BG5 from Gerry, sound bloke.
Still tempted by a WR legacy, but I'd also like a V70r and an RS6, once I get bored of my runaround Saab Aero wagon.

got outbid on fascia. might just have to order from subaru uk.

so,do you know what turbo is on your car? have you looked?
also did you look into removing the turbo gauze filter thingy that seems to kill the turbo if blocked?

I am sure that a guy on UK Legacy had a 3D printer make the surround. Your more than welcome to have all the other bit's I have left.

The banjo bolt with the filter fitted as not been changed (that I know of) but I am confident that the servicing and frequent oil changes will help to mitigate the problem.

I fitted an Alpine head unit. The McIntosh lacks BT, UK radio, DAB, USB etc etc.
Stand by for the thread on how to change the system over.
