I am taking delivery of a new std. Turbo quite soon and I have set aside £4.000 for "personalification". I am very green to this whole Subaru thing (got hooked after a test drive) and wonder what I should spend my designated 4 grands on?
Wheels?, brakes, exhaust, etc. etc.
What do you feel is the most important modification.
Also, I have seen the greyish looking wheels on a P1 and I thought they looked great. Anyone knows what they cost and what size they are.
Sorry if all this is "old" stuff for You guys but I have to start somewhere to get on with this great adventure.

congrats on your choice.

Personally I would have the car for at least 1-2 months as it is and then decide. That way you can appriciate the add ons you buy.

As for extra's. Take a trip to Scooby Sport and Graham Goode Racing. They sell just about anything that you can think of.

You will end up with about 50 people giving you 50 different things to buy otherwise.

For wheels, have a look at the 'items for sale' on this site or again Scooby Sport/GGR.

I would buy a nice back box and performance filter for starters. Alloys next.

Its hard to improve on perfection!!

Brakes would be good here!
And you'll have enough change for the decatted exhaust system and an induction kit too.
Make sure you stop as well as you go though.

For what it's worth I'd suggest some boring things to start off with:

1. Headlamp and driving lamps covers (62.00 all in) - replacing the headlamps etc v. expensive.

2. Disklok & Tracker type thing or similar - I wouldn't trust the immobiliser to prevent it being stolen.

I know this wasn't exactly what you were asking for but worth thinking about if you haven't already

As a recent Turbo purchaser, I've done the following so far;

1) Headlamp and driving lamp covers, (as Jason recommends.)

2) Scoobysport Backbox, fitted Saturday and as good as everyone says.

As for the future I hope to put on some 17" wheels probably Scoobysport or Radius and maybe either Scoobysport or Prodrive suspension.

If you've money to burn, big brakes have got to be the most sensible mod.

As for the P1, the wheels are 17" x 7" OZ's.

I'd go for new brakes (I hate the standard ones, even for fast road use).

Hi, Joergen.
A lot of people are telling you to upgrade the brakes, but please be aware that brakes on a 99 or 2000 model has improved compared to older models.
I run a 1999 - my first Impreza, and have done 10.000 KM ( sorry we don't measure in miles in France)the car is still standard and I'm very happy about the brakes. I'll stick to the standard brakes for the start.
If the Impreza is your first 4W drive car, I suggest you to use the money on a track day or driving education. I have more than 20 years of club Rally and track racing in different cars, but the Impreza is not easy to handle when you push it to the limit. When you are able to handle the standard car, then go for improvement of the car.
I'll bet that a top driver in a standard Impreza will beat most of the cars with upgraded brakes, back box's and chip tuning.
I agree that 17" wheels in gold looks great, so go for them because of the look.

If you want to use any of the performance at night then the first thing you need is decent lights, either Scoobysport Cibies of PIAA's unless you like the look of the twin headlamp conversion !

Try the car first to see how heavy you are on brakes then decide whether you just want better pads of if a full upgrade is for you.

Exhaust and air filter are the essential first engine mods.

For performance, suspension comes before wheels, however, for looks it's the other way round so you need to decide your priorities.

However, with 4 grand you can pretty much do the lot.

Look, forget all of the above until you book yourself on a driving course to be able to handle what you have better. That alone will improve your time in the car more than any bolt on bits.

Drive it for what it's worth then upgrade the things you don't like, or feel would make a difference to you. Like I said about the quickshift, it is a personal thing.
