Seller has actually responded! His number still works.

07763241162

But of course, hes telling me that I did all of the damage to the car myself on the drive home as it was fine before it left his possession!

And now I am harassing him apparently by asking for my money back.

Liar and a complete *******.

I feel your pain fella..I got stung buying a car on here about 4/5 years ago. The guy saw sense in the end and gave me a partial refund so I ended up breaking the car and getting my money back. It's not a nice feeling knowing someone has hid the full truth from you to offload a car.

Thanks for that, how did you manage to persuade him to give you some of your money back?

Wouldn't beat yourself up too much, it looks a nice motor.

Hopefully the bottom end knocking is just the usual piston slapping and not knackered. (if the bottom end has let go you do still have rights as a private buyer 'sold as seen' is not the case)
The wheels can be replaced, they are fugly anyhow.

Apart from that is everything else OK?

Its got some trick parts on it, maybe not worth what you paid but will be a nice example once tickled a bit.

Are you sure? I bought a lemon from a Vauxhall dealership a few years ago and carried out a lot of research into buyers rights regarding both private and trade sales. As a private sale, the buyer has almost no rights whatsoever. 'Caveat Emptor' - buyer beware.

OP, take a look on the trading standards website for all the info.

Hope it all gets sorted though mate, good luck

Instead of giving you're usual sarcastic response, why don't you do the OP a favour and enlighten us / him soon as you're an expert? What's the point in giving a response like that when (assuming you know the actual law otherwise you would be unqualified to make that response) when you could help the OP out?

I actually looked this up out of curiosity and you are quite right.. private sales are very risky. No come back for the buyer as its buyers responsibility to judge it fit for purpose...

https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.u...-with-your-car

However, if the car is unroadworthy, its illegal to sell it. So there MAY be some comeback because of the wheel?

Unlucky. I was looking at that car but the ad an his excuse for selling seemed a bit off to me. At least if you take it to engine tuner you will be in good hands, and it is a good excuse to go forged.

I was going to look at another type r that "just needed mapping". Thankfully I joined a facebook group where I saw the seller enquiring about the engine possibly being fecked. Next thing, it was being broken.

feel for you mate - i bought a family car - vw touareg 2 weeks ago - 1 owner from new - sold by a vw dealer with them knowing the head gasket was going - luckily after i spoke with the previous owner they are refunding me the full amount.

otherwise i'd be left with a £1 - £2k repair bill.

and there just going to sell the car on again !!!

Tbh the guys a tosser who sold the car, he was selling it on FB for ages, and I mean ages.
I thought something must be dodgy for it not to have sold by now, then he lists it on here.
The guy is a young kid who probably don't have a license (or was selling for his family member).
Not as described is actually classed as 'misrepresentation'. Now I'm sure that can be persued in court?
And your right, I find it hard to believe that Ray's can actually buckle and crack?
Here's a pic of what they should look like if genuine

If you zoom in, I'm sure you can compare.
Hope you get sorted

I presume you didn't see it for sale on here busta?
Such a shame a good guy on here seems to have been ripped off
Guess the lesson is,when spending big bucks then to do loads of digging 1st.

Doesn't help DoZZa now,but I'm pretty sure you will make a good car from what you have bought, and the fact that Impreza prices are on the up(especially 2 doors) might be of some comfort.
Sounds like it's rust free and even if you spend 3-4k sorting it out, then imo could still be worth a good amount in the future.

I did see it on here yes, but I was saying it was on FB for a while, then he listed on here, I thought oh he's trying to sell it here now which I thought, snet is first place you advertise.
But looks very clean and hopefully get niggles sorted.
I've never liked classic engines anyway, they are meant to have newage blocks in as standard now if you buy em
Or forge them
I've looked again at the wheels and they look to be genuine too so hard to belive they cracked.
Op did you nor see the crack on viewing? As that IMO would be noticeable .

Oh well, it's just one of them ****ty sinarios, somebody was gonna get mugged, it's what you make of it now that counts

Really dont know what to do now, there is nobody local to me that knows about these cars that I know of. Closest is EngineTuner in Plymouth, but of course, to get the car there safely I would need to put some new wheels on there.

But if I buy new wheels and the engine is knackered, im at a loss, just spent all the money I had on this bloody car!!
dozza take it to derek aka matrix on here, he has rebuilt 4 engines at least including screechys type r 2.5cozzie lump, pm me if you need phone numbers

I have some 16's with winter tyres on that you could borrow if you do get stuck. They won't win any beauty contests but at least they are not bent as a 3 bob note. You could get the car to the garage then and decide what you want to do from there.

Not sure why you edited my comment to read DowZZa there busta but hey ho ?
Shame a heads up want given if you saw it advertised on here after seeing and suspecting a dodgy ad on fb?
Also don't know why you would think the classic EJ20 is a poor engine? Plenty of good rebuild done with classic engines of done by a decent engine builder isn't there?

You only have to prove the fault was present before you bought the car. Also it is illegal to sell a car in an unroadworthy state, wheels not fitted correctly would class as unroadworthy.
